No one in my family knows, but thats probably because I dont really tell them whats going on in my life, I try and keep to myself. My dad just thinks that Im weird because he has seen me walk around wearing a collar and a pair of ears that I put on my sweater hood and because I told him that I want to buy a tail that I can wear lol Its probably for the better that no one knows though because everyone in my family thinks Im strange enough so I dont really need to add on to that xD

My friend, you are far braver (and your parents much more accepting) than I was. If I were to show up at my parents' wearing even my collar, it would be a half hour discussion. I actually almost did once; I rang the doorbell, and then noticed my reflection in the front window. I had just enough time to tear it off and shove it in my pocket. But if it's a comfort, my parents still think I'm weird. Most people think that's something you grow out of, but nope. Here I am, twenty-four, and still weird. Smiley

First off, I'm 27 well close.. and i wasn't in the comunity when i was young, only bout four years or so.

My family knows, my mother dosent care, thinks its amusing, they also know I play a girl online, when i use to play SL mother told me i has good taste in clothes aparently, and half of them she wished she could wear, i went on sl for a bit ago, i have about 800 or so outfits, and tons of just random clothes.

I never really had to explain about the comunity to my family, one side thinks "okies so?" and the other side is Jehova Witness, and well they don't matter in their opinions or such, although they know and the female bit, i don't care for their opinion, cause its negitive on the whole world, cept for their little world. Being in the comunity is more of an intrest to me, i dont want to get involved in the politics of it and the like, i concider it more of just a social gathering of shared intrests animal vegetable and mineral.. with fursuits mother thinks there cute and i would look weird on one.

As for the more adult side, artwork storys and the like, mother knows and seen some of it, some intrests her others it just weird, nothing more.

I don't really have friends, outside of online, i keep to myself, but for co-workers, boss kinda knows thinks I'm weird, (but i work, is all that matters to him) and im not telling my forman.. where i work it's not the place to be anything near different, most that come there are old loggers, truck drivers and the like, so Rasism and bigetry reigns there, and I want to keep my job.

When we first met Gnosis, I had dyed my hair blue for the first time, and when I went to show it to my parents, my mom took me aside and started crying because she thought Gnosis had turned me gay.

TJ u know you will catch the gay from someone one of these days it is contagious after all.

I am an open person so if  if anyone asks me about anything i will tell them but sometimes i pay grate detail in the way i word things so i don't weird ppl out.

my mom is very accepting of everything regardless hell she even put on my head once,  danced around and accidentally scared her boyfriend. my dad is not relay to interested in my interests unless they r sports, cars, boats, or fishing as an example he knows i am gay but ignores it.

haha Oh Gnosis.

I remember the first time I met your dad. Somehow, after knowing you for a while, he wasn't what I expected. XD

That I'm sure of, only one person knows, that being my mother. We don't talk about it, we've tried, she's not a point where she really understands. Her trust of mainstream media versus my word :/  Aside from her I've never bothered to tell anybody nor do I feel compelled to. I'm not hiding it, it's simply not something that ever comes up. If it does though, I am who I am, people can think what they want once they know.

My parent's somewhat know, though like others family on here they have heard off/ seen the oh so lovely "media" about furs and I have gotten a few "are you serious?..." comments among other things but I usually just avoid the topic entirely. I have never been one to really just make my own personal niches public knowledge. Usually its only around other furs that I ever open up and become more outspoken and the like.

I usually just avoid the whole furry subject (and the spirituality side ENTIRELY) around most people because I really don't wanna sit around and try to explain things to people who are most likely just gonna think "yeah he's trying to sugar coat it and is saying things on the fly to not look weird"

I tend to treat the furry think like my being gay, around other similar people its a big ol bag of fun to talk about and get really into, but the rest of the world has no reason to know my own personal life or to put theirs noses into it. Tongue

My family doesn't know/would really care about me being furry. Sure they see me coloring an anthro in on my computer or walk past me on a furry forum or whatever. They don't really understand why I love wearing so much FOX clothing. Like anything else they catch me doing, they just shake their heads and get to whatever it was that they were looking for me for.

i told my parents 2 weeks ago, even though ive been furry for 3 years.
my mom started laughing at me, and told me i was screwy, my dad just pretended like he didnt hear.
lets just say it went better than i thought it would.
none of my family actually knows what furry is, they just know what ive told them, ('cept for my mom, who googled furry and got yiff pictures. ._.)
bout a week ago i asked my mom if i could get a fursuit. I told her i would pay for it and all that.
she said "NO, its just a WEIRD accessory for your fucked hobby."
so all and all, they think im now a fuck up, and that i like to have sex with animals, and people pretending to be animals.
i hate it that people portray furrys INSTANTLY as people who like to do animals. GAH.

on a way better alternative,
most of my freinds know im furry, and ALL of my good friends know.
there is only one who "WTF'd" but hes gotten over it.
all of them think being furry acctually sounds really fun, and 2 are now furry o.o
other than that, i draw anthro's alot at school and noone really thinks twice..
i actually act like an animal alot around my closest freinds, just not at school.

so far i really havent told anyone what furry REALLY means to ME.  mostly because i myself dont yet know. =/
WELL THATS ENOUGH OF THAT Wink sorry for my SOB story of my homelife xD

My family knows. My mate's family knows. My co-workers know.
I mean, I guess that comes with being the chair of a convention, and a former chair of another.

They took it well, and think it's just a hobby. They were politely curious, but they also have the stance of "Hey, so long as he's not hurting himself or others...". I think they're more of the mind that if I knew it was bad I wouldn't be doing it.
Pretty much how they took me telling them I was pagan.

Granted, they thought my fursuit head was rather spiffy Smiley

Giz thats sad.. My parents are similar, I Told my mom I was a furry and now she avoids the topic like the plague, thinks getting a fursuit is dumb.. But meh IM very open about being a furry and proud of it.. If being part of a fandom where the standard greeting is a hug and having fun is normal is wrong.. then I dont wanna be right.. I cant stand it when you oepn up to someone important and they shut you out I say Fight the power, flaunt your furriness... If they wont enjoy it with you dont givem a choice ^_^

Don't say that. Being old is a pain in the ass. You'll have bills, exams, university, work, bosses who are total asswipes, etc, etc. Life only gets worse as you get older. Enjoy being young while you can. It's the only time in life when nothing matters and you can do all the dumb shit you want without caring.
