well, if you are going to start with the head, the best thing to do is decide what type of head you are going to make: Plastic Wire mesh and Balaclava styles are most common types. I prefer the Balaclava myself.
Then you have to decide if you want a toony or realistic head (Your fursona is rather toony, so I assume that is what you are going to choose). Moving jaw or stationary?
I prefer to buy all my fur at once, that way you willnever run into the "oh no, the place I bought my fur from doesn't sell that type anymore" scenario.
I can't wait to see someof your progress. Keep us updated ^_^

Foam can be found anywhere from Wal-mart to art stores to an old couch cushion, depending on your budget.
As for a styrofoam head, are you thinking about a human-shaped head to use as a base?

I made 3 heads before I bothered buying a base. You don't REALLY need one. If you want a cheap and easy one (and dont' get clausterphobic), you can wrap your head in cheap cloth, then duct tape your head. Cut the Duct tape off your head and stuff it with newspaper to make a duct-tape dummy head to work from.

If yoru walmart has a sewing section, that is usually where they keep their upholstery foam. If they don't carry any, you might have to try a sewing store or a craft store like Michaels

Michaels usually has eeeeverything except the fabric Also, Sarah Howard does some really great work! You should be able to do really well based off her tutorials.

Every head you make is a learning experience. I have only recently gotten the hang of moving jaws... and they still don't work from time to time.
Bask in the accomplishment of a new head before tossing at aside for a new model ^_^
He looks really good so far. Hurry up and fur the guy!
