why?, don"t you want the chance to win 43 000 000$ this Wednesday? 43 million? Oh god I'm glad I had today off, I wouldn't want to have been anywhere near the lotto machine at work then.

Yup....and! As you state, more people buy into the lotto when its higher which infact makes your chances of winning even less than if it were 1-5 million

The Super 7 goes up to 10 million fairly frequently, at least. Benjamin

Yeah, but because the Super 7 requires you to pick 7 numbers, your chances of winning are significantly lower already, before factoring in how many other people are playing.

at work talking to this one guy
me:"so you buying into the hype of the 48 milll lottery?"
guy:"umm no is it really that high?"
me"yes"
guy"well I got something to think about. Why do people buy tickets all of a sudden when the lottery is high? isn't 1-5 million not enough to convince you to buy a ticket?"
Which is pretty true. It shows how greedy us humans really are.
Yeah, were pretty greedy buggers....

and you know when they say there will be more, then there will be, due to the fact that more people buy into it. when you say, I have 100$ and 20 tickets, or 100 000$ and 200 000 tickets, people look at the 100 000 before their odds of winning

If I decided, for some unusual reason, to buy a lotto ticket and win the jackpot, I have my ideas for what I'd spend the money on pretty well in hand... (heh... finite math spoiled the lottery for me... I know the odds of winning)
- A good chunk of the money would go to savings (of course). - Some would go to my parents for raising me and putting so much money into my upbringing, mainly for the purposes of finishing their house up, as well as getting my dad some good health care (which he'd likely refuse anyways). - Some would go to my girlfriend for her sexual health center, regarding plans to buy land and a building, or to have one constructed. - Some would go to getting my fiancee through school and perhaps up to Canada, if that's what she decided to do. - Some would go to paying off my debts. - Some would go to personal pleasures, but this would likely be the least amount. Like getting a nice car and some stuff for the apartment.
And that's about it!
