I was going through some of my old writings and came across some poetry that I wrote years ago, and thought I would share the best of the worst. I don’t write poetry anymore, and I admit the stuff I did write was cliché and undeservingly depressing (my childhood didn’t suck that much- don’t know why I was writing about “corrupted humanity”, and “dragons fading.”) Still, they do mark an interesting time of my literary development.

My Tears Are Letters

My tears are letters falling upon a blank page,
My sorrow and my sadness,
Are exposed in so many lines,
My fears and my horrors,
Both collide.
My tears are letters etching on the blank emptiness,
The needle of sadness guiding the thread of sorrow,
Weaving into my soul.

The Beast in Me

I watch the trees of the forest fly by,
And wonder about the darkness between them,
I am reminded of something I never thought of,
I sigh.
My head wavers in fatigue,
I close my eyes to enter sleep,
Then the Hunt begins.
My massive body stays still as I hunt my prey,
My eyes follow its every move,
The smell of fear blares in my nostrils,
It knows something is there,
But it does not know I am here.
I lurch out,
My claws bared,
I sink my teeth into its beating body.
Sweet ruby blood runs down my muzzle,
As I bite deeper for the tender meat,
I howl at the joy of my kill.
I wake up.
The trees are gone,
The smell of things are less strong,
My massive body was reduced to the wretched hide of civilized man,
I sob.
The beasts linger in the darkness between the trees,
Waiting for me to join,
And when the chance comes again,
I will be glad to.

Wolf Mind

Sniff,
They were here,
I follow.

Sniff,
The wind tells tales,
I run.

Sniff,
The mark of ages,
I mark.

Bang!
Thunder over my head,
I hear.

Sniff,
The Thunder cannot find me,
I hide.

Whimper,
I wait till the moon comes,
I rise.

Sniff,
Danger no longer lurks,
I smile.

Sniff,
I find them,
I go.

Howl,
I am home.

Humans might be the smartest species on the planet, but they're still pretty stupid.
