If I'm actually planning to do some writing, I'll generally go for my laptop, since it allows me to write my ideas down almost as quickly as I think them, which means that I'll lose less to my horrible memory. It also allows me to edit things and move lines much easier, as well as saving multiple drafts without copying it out several times (or using a photocopier which just doesn't look as nice). That being said, I have a couple classes where I don't generally need/use my laptop, so I wind up doodling and writing down a lot of ideas in the margins of my notebook. I have several paragraphs, story drafts, and poems sprinkled throughout almost all of my notebooks.

Oh, and I, too, am a fan of the keyboard clicking. It makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something. Or at least gives me a good background rhythm.
