All right..

So, if you haven't heard about Charlie Sheen and his craziness, toss his name on youtube and watch some of the crazy interviews that come up.

(Eg:)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5aSa4tmVNM

But, if you have..

What do you think?  Do you think he's fried himself on drugs, and is just out of his mind?

Personally, I think he's done a lot of drugs that have probably more than partly altered at least some of his perceptions.  But, I also do have the impression that he's just found exactly where he wants to be in life, and he's realised that he doesn't care about what general society thinks.  The drugs might have helped that along, but he seems to be exactly where he wants to be, and doesn't care at all what goes on in the rest of the world's opinion.  Many of us (probably most of the world) proclaim to want to be 'free' from caring about society's judgements, but we still behave in patterns that fit into what we believe we 'should' do, and we shy away from, or even attack, the things that are outside of it.  You can see the interviewer doing just that, or trying to.

I think furries (among other groups), being 'outcasted' and open-minded (generally) more than the average person, can relate a little better to the idea that people can be different without being 'shunned'.  Someone who 'seems' to be so completely off-the-wall like Charlie Sheen, and so publicly open about it, and so clearly not caring, is very interesting to see.  People think he's nuts.  The interviewer can't understand him, and seems nervous.  He's not fitting into what she expects, and she almost seems to try and attack him for that.  She's attempting to mock him or at least socially chastise him for 'non-normal' behavior, in a way, and I think he's fully aware of that, and simply doesn't care.  He seems to do a better job of making a mockery of her (and society) than she is trying to do of him, because he really just doesn't care what people think about him.  He's where he wants to be in his head and in his life, and he's entirely happy.  I don't think he's necessarily 'crazy', but perhaps just different and realises he's not like those who are judging him.

He's got full honesty and what seems to be good intentions as far as his kids and people in general go, and blatant disregard for society's opinions, and all of those things are things I feel are incredibly valuable in life.

If nothing else, it provides brilliant amusement because the things he says are so fantastically genuine.

Thoughts?  Do you think such insanity is a workable alternative to the everyday?  Do you think he's actually 'insane'?

I find my boss's coffee mug relevant to this. It says "You do not have to be crazy to work here, but it certainly helps."

I think life can be insane sometimes, and the only logical way to go through life is with a little insanity. Not suggesting you go burn down a school because you believe your dog is telling you to, but rather look at and guage the the norm of a situation, and perhaps find something to make it abnormal. Like fursuiting in public transit. :3

Of course that brings to a whole other issue to the table. How much is too much? Everyone's threshold is different, though I think we can all agree that burning down a school is well beyond any kind of line, however in things like talking to yourself on the street, or acting outrageous in public can be considered mild for some, and wild for others.

I think if its not harming anyone, then I see no reason to act on some of those crazy impulses.

So I guess I'd have to agree with you. I don't personally like the guy, but what I dislike more is people pointing fingers and basically trying to exploit this person and saying: "Hey, look at this crazy famous person!" They might as well point their fingers and shout "DIFFERENT!"

I've met some pretty interesting characters in downtown Vancouver, with some very interesting ideas on life and how to act in public, but then again, they wouldn't bring in the attention that Charlie Sheen would.

Thoughts?  Do you think such insanity is a workable alternative to the everyday?  Do you think he's actually 'insane'?

"What if I told you insane was working fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years at the end of which they tell you to piss off; ending up in some retirement village hoping to die before suffering the indignity of trying to make it to the toilet on time? Wouldn't you consider that to be insane?"
-Steve Buscemi in Con Air

I think that's a pretty good answer. :3

You bring up good points.  Smiley  It's always refreshing to see that there are people who aren't afraid to step outside the norms of society for their freedom's own benefit.  That's how I feel about it, too; and the pagans put it well:  'An it harm none; do as thou wilt.'

It's all too easy to think you're alone in your apparent disregard for 'normal' on occasion.  Thanks for the reminder that we're not all square pegs fitting in square holes.  Smiley

Where are you working these days?

I'm back at the park for another season of rip roaring adventures in park facility operations. XD
They did add me to another park on the west coast as a relief operator, which shakes things up a bit. Hoping to get the full position next summer, but we'll see what happens I suppose.  Smiley

How about you?

Ah, that's good.  Even if it can get a little stale at times being at the same place, being on with Parks is such a solid position with so many doors opened.

How about you?

Whew.. loaded question.  I ended up taking a full-time job working with rattlesnakes again this summer, plus two amphibian-related contracts came through.  So, I'm working 40-50 hour weeks full-time, plus two other jobs that eat up more time than I actually have available for the remainder.  (I'm a bit behind.)  With everything else going on, (Burning man, FurBQ, sorting out this house I bought because the tenants aren't really paying their rent on time), it's been insane.  Lack of any semblance of free time in the extreme.  I only come on here to type for a few minutes on occasion because it's my only chance at some semblance of social life outside of the biology crews.  But, the jobs are great and I have nothing to complain about.  Just very much looking forward to not putting myself through this in the very near future.  Smiley

Looking very much forward to seeing you guys later this summer.  Many shenanigans to discuss, I'm sure!
