Hey there, all!

(Edit:  Web page is up!)  https://docs.google.com/document/d/15voha6ig0yUCARGneuc63q9mloMmk5PprXN8NuBuWNU/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1)

So, we're well underway for planning BC FurBQ 2011, in the beautiful Okanagan Valley.

We're very excited about hosting the event again this year, and we hope to see many of you there!

This year's event is from Friday, August 12th at 3:00pm to Sunday, August 15th.  We have the site booked until Monday, so we'll be doing a farewell breakfast on Monday and everybody will depart from there by 10:30am.

It's being held at the BEAUTIFUL Conkle Lake campground, not far from Osoyoos.  (A little less than two hours).

We have a cap of 20 people this year (dropped from 30), and we've booked the upper group site, which is large, private and spectacular.  This site is truly lovely.  We used to camp there as kids, and it's a great place to be.

Some photos of Conkle Lake from various places on the internet:

What's involved with FurBQ?  In a nutshell, it's basically a chance for us to enjoy the outdoors in the company of fantastic people, make some great friends, and go on adventures.  There will be swimming, hiking, games, marshmallows (fire or not!), and good times.  All meals are included starting from dinner on Friday to breakfast on Monday.

Everyone also gets a care package, and a custom badge.  I'm doing all the badges this year, and am excited to get started.  We'll be doing art-jamming, face-painting, and an epic game of capture-the-flag.

As long as there's no fireban on, there will also be campfires.  We've been lucky in past years but you can never be sure in the Okanagan.

For those of you who haven't experienced the Okanagan in summer, it's super-warm and fantastic for swimming.  And yes, there will be peaches.  Not quite millions of them, but certainly enough to satisfy the needs of om-nomming foxes everywhere.  There will also be apples, apricots, and piles of other fresh Okanagan fruit.

We have the actual 'FurBQ' on Saturday night, which means hearty steaks (or burgers, if you prefer) for everyone.  We'll also accommodate for anyone who's vegetarian, or has other food requirements.

The cost to register is $50 until the beginning of August, at which point it goes up to $55.  This is just to encourage everyone to register early, so I'm able to get the majority of the badges completed before the end-of-month rush.  There's no at-the-door registration, as we have a set number of people we can accommodate.  Register early to make sure you get a spot!  I'm not sure how quickly we'll fill up.

If you want to register through paypal, you HAVE to include your email address.  This is how I'll get ahold of you for your badge and everything else.

Registration is through Paypal, or by cheque, cash, or other arrangements.  Feel free to drop me an email to figure things out.

We'll be tenting.  It'll be bring-your-own-tent, but people do have extras, and we'll figure out sleeping accommodations and tent-sharing as we go.

We'll be trying to arrange carpools as well, to minimize the number of cars coming on site.  There are people that will likely be coming from the coast, from Kelowna and area, from the states, and also potentially from Alberta, (just from those I know are planning to come), so we'll be able to figure out some ride-sharing possibilities.

Truly excited about this year's FurBQ, and looking forward to seeing everyone again!  (Plus all the new faces.)

We'll get into much more detail once the website goes up.  Feel free to ask questions, though!

Talk soon;
-Sephren

I forgot to mention:  FurBQ is a no-drinking, no-drugs event.  I have no personal problem with either, but with so many people and a site owned by someone else, it makes sense to keep drugs and alcohol in check just to keep things safe and positive for everyone.

We get crazy enough as it is.  Smiley

I also realise that a limit of 20 people seems quite small for the amount of fun we have and the number of people who want to come, but we need to see how reasonable it is to deal with 20 people at a campsite while still keeping the close-knit FurBQ spirit that has been in the past, and slowly expand from there.  This site deals with 20 people quite nicely; we'll see how it goes this year and then expand accordingly for next year.  (Which will most likely be on the coast, because TJ Bluevulpine is fantastic enough to co-organize this insanity with me.)

Mm, things are rolling right along.

Puma; is it the ride that's a factor for you?  If that's the case, there are likely already a few Alberta furs coming down that may be willing to pick you up.  We can see what it looks like once things get rolling.

Website should be up soon.

Cheers;

I don't think anybody will know about it yet.  Smiley  We havn't announced it through the website or with emails to past attendees, yet.  Smiley

I'll certainly let you know if I hear of anyone coming out from that way.

I hope I have a job before then, I would love to come. haven't been around since 2007 and now I feel old for saying that haha, still even got the badge up on my wall XD good times!

If thing all work out smoothly it could be me and 1-2 others. I actually have an RV that I would love to bring out given the financial situation, it runs well, but I still question its ability to pull fuel consistently so I would have to get the fuel pump done on it before I would trust it with a drive of that length, otherwise its me and my little red Civic.

While transport and heck even my RV are perfectly capable for me, unfortunately I have finally found a job which means I wont be able to make it for the Furbq this year, kinda sad about it as I haven't been to one in years and didn't even know of the Tofino one that was held last year. At this point unfortunately finally making income again after a year of joblessness has to come first.

Sorry guys, but if there are any other yearly meets down the road, I will be sure to get the time booked off Cheesy

No problem, mate.  We'll drop you an earlier email for next year as we'll probably be having it out on the coast again.  Smiley

Up in Kamloops ATM, sent you an email as we have had a change of plans. Just letting you know as we may possibly need a place to crash tonight if at all possible. ^^;

Photo directions to the site, going up from Osoyoos:

The road you turn onto is Johnstone Creek Rd. W.  In this shot, we're facing the highway.  You'll be turning left off the highway.

Once you're on the road, it'll look something like this.  It's mostly dirt all the way to the site.

There are a few random side roads, but if you stay on the main road you'll get there just fine.  The first landmark and fork in the road we came across was this yellow gate, which you just continue through.

Another sign on the way to the site:

Also, watch the hell out for Range Rider.  He's serious business.

We'll also have a couple of 'FurBQ' signs.  You can't miss us.  Smiley  We'll be at the first group site, and we'll direct people to a spot to park.

See you soon!

Thank you all once again for a fantastic time..  We had a really great crew this time around and every moment was pleasant.  Thanks for making the event a good time for all!

We do have pictures.  Unfortunately, TJ's fantastic set was mostly lost, but we do have other cameras.  I'll try to keep links to all of them.

Whew.  Lots of unpacking today!  Thanks, guys, for all the help and all the fun.  Smiley
