Hey there, all!
(Edit: Web page is up!) https://docs.google.com/document/d/15voha6ig0yUCARGneuc63q9mloMmk5PprXN8NuBuWNU/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1)
So, we're well underway for planning BC FurBQ 2011, in the beautiful Okanagan Valley.
We're very excited about hosting the event again this year, and we hope to see many of you there!
This year's event is from Friday, August 12th at 3:00pm to Sunday, August 15th. We have the site booked until Monday, so we'll be doing a farewell breakfast on Monday and everybody will depart from there by 10:30am.
It's being held at the BEAUTIFUL Conkle Lake campground, not far from Osoyoos. (A little less than two hours).
We have a cap of 20 people this year (dropped from 30), and we've booked the upper group site, which is large, private and spectacular. This site is truly lovely. We used to camp there as kids, and it's a great place to be.
Some photos of Conkle Lake from various places on the internet:

What's involved with FurBQ? In a nutshell, it's basically a chance for us to enjoy the outdoors in the company of fantastic people, make some great friends, and go on adventures. There will be swimming, hiking, games, marshmallows (fire or not!), and good times. All meals are included starting from dinner on Friday to breakfast on Monday.
Everyone also gets a care package, and a custom badge. I'm doing all the badges this year, and am excited to get started. We'll be doing art-jamming, face-painting, and an epic game of capture-the-flag.
As long as there's no fireban on, there will also be campfires. We've been lucky in past years but you can never be sure in the Okanagan.
For those of you who haven't experienced the Okanagan in summer, it's super-warm and fantastic for swimming. And yes, there will be peaches. Not quite millions of them, but certainly enough to satisfy the needs of om-nomming foxes everywhere. There will also be apples, apricots, and piles of other fresh Okanagan fruit.
We have the actual 'FurBQ' on Saturday night, which means hearty steaks (or burgers, if you prefer) for everyone. We'll also accommodate for anyone who's vegetarian, or has other food requirements.
The cost to register is $50 until the beginning of August, at which point it goes up to $55. This is just to encourage everyone to register early, so I'm able to get the majority of the badges completed before the end-of-month rush. There's no at-the-door registration, as we have a set number of people we can accommodate. Register early to make sure you get a spot! I'm not sure how quickly we'll fill up.
If you want to register through paypal, you HAVE to include your email address. This is how I'll get ahold of you for your badge and everything else.
Registration is through Paypal, or by cheque, cash, or other arrangements. Feel free to drop me an email to figure things out.
We'll be tenting. It'll be bring-your-own-tent, but people do have extras, and we'll figure out sleeping accommodations and tent-sharing as we go.
We'll be trying to arrange carpools as well, to minimize the number of cars coming on site. There are people that will likely be coming from the coast, from Kelowna and area, from the states, and also potentially from Alberta, (just from those I know are planning to come), so we'll be able to figure out some ride-sharing possibilities.
Truly excited about this year's FurBQ, and looking forward to seeing everyone again! (Plus all the new faces.)
We'll get into much more detail once the website goes up. Feel free to ask questions, though!
Talk soon;
