Asside from the 20gb and 60gb models of PS3 that featured PS2-On-A-Chip designs to enable backwards compatability being discontinued and the 80gb model using a hybrid of hardware/software emulator with limited issues running PS2 games and the 40gb model featuring zero PS2 support at all, there's really nothing wrong with the PS3.

Hardware failures have been low, on par with most consumer products, granted someone's machine somewhere is gonna die, cause no machine is perfect.

It's the Xbox 360 that has a long history of comitting repeated ritualistic suicide due to countless hardware design flaws.

I've heard the failure rate has been fairly low, but then again I know someone who is on their 3rd ps3 because they keep failing (i know they take care of their stuff) and another friend who's PS3 only plays ps2 and non-HD dvds

The PS3 has a reported 3% failure rate and so someone's gonna get a dud and it's even statistically possible for someone to get a SERIES of duds.

The weakest point in the PS3 or any console is usually the optical drive, lots of moving parts in there to break.  The Xbox, PS2, PS3, PSP, Game Cube, Saturn, all have had units where the optical drives died on them.

Of course, this is what warrenties are for. Smiley

Don't worry, I'm saving up for a PS3 as well =P
I'm happy that the PS3 is starting to get much more attention now... it's a bit late coming due to the lack of games till this last year, but I've never had issues with Sony at all ever since the PS1.

What games are you gonna get for the PS3? =3

There's only two games out right now that I want.
Dynasty Warriors 6 (HUGE Dynasty/Samurai Warriors fan)
Devil May Cry 4 (Loves Dante)

I'm going to get FFXIII when it comes out because it looks amazing. I've been following it since the first news on it

That's all the games that interest me so far

I'm modding PSPs to save up for a PS3, the PSP really impressed me but the $500 fee for a PS3 is a heafy number.  I want the 80GB machine to play many PS1 and PS2 games as well.

However some of my games will only work with limited success on the PS3, namely my PS1 light gun shooters like Point Blank.  The Namco Guncon works only on the PS1/PS2 game port which the PS3 has none of.  It's also a nonstandard special controller, so the PS1/PS2->PS3 adaptor mechanism won't translate the input data correctly.  It just translates PS1/PS2 input data to generic HID input, the Guncon works differnetly.

So I'll have to keep a PS1 or PS2 or two. Smiley  But that's not so bad, as the Guncon and Guncon2 for PS1 and PS2 only support CRT TVs. @_@  Only the Guncon3 for PS3 supports LCD and projection rigs, and only Time Crisis 4 supports the Guncon3, no other games.

Me?  I want GTA4, Ghostbusters, probably FF13, and Time Crisis 4.  Plus whatever else looks interesting

The PSP impressed me enough to want to get a PS3 basicly.  Especially the elegance that is the XMB.

*looks at his PS1, PS2, three xboxes and PSP*  ...If only I was actually a gamer. :/

I know what you mean.  I use my PSP to read manga and downloaded webcomics (Use a tool to download every page from a comic and put them in order in a folder).  Which is GREAT since you can just flip through pages using the shoulders and use the nub to scroll.  However the issue is the PSP (I presume the PS3 does something similar) sorts images by date created, with no other options.  So if you edit one image in a folder, it gets shunted to the bottom, which is obviously a real pain if they're sequential comic pages.

Similar with the music, yeah, only one sub folder.  But my view is this: The PSP is a hand held game machine with a lot of secondary features.  It's a good music player, it's a good personal video player, it's a good image viewer, it's a good portable web browser.  It is not THE BEST.  If you want something to hold and organize a tonne of music, get an iPod which is a GREAT music player.  However, as all those features are secondary, they do pretty good for what they are.

I often use it to read forums or my gmail if I'm out and about in town.  Obviously, I rarely respond, due to the limits of the PSP's virtual keyboard. :X  But it's nice to be able to check in on forums, email or LJ while you're waiting for friends downtown and you managed to find a free wifi signal.

Additionally, I suggest everyone get Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection for PSP (Also on PS2 and Wii), it's one of the best simulated pinball games I've ever played and I'm a huge fan of arcade stuff dispite being a terrible gamer. D:

I dunno, is it necessary?  I recall one Sony exec remarking that the PSP is the greatest PS3 accessory. Tongue

But yes, images are by date.
Video files are organized by name.
Music... ...I dunno. :o  Not that it concerns me, I only have about 30 MP3s on mine and I just set it to random+loop. Cheesy

it's something that happens on the xbox 360 when it gets too hot something melts inside the system and touches the motherboard or something x.x giving it red rings on the screen i think... i don't know D: i just want the game system makers to make the systems fool proof before i get one x3

The "red ring" everyone always talks about is this:

I dunno what causes it, but I do know that it means your console is dead. Hopefully it's still under warranty when this happens.

ya I know that is why I haven't hopped into any new series so I won't have to feel dedicated to buy a game machine next gen just to finish a friggin story. If I play a game that doesn't need a continuation and they do something stupid next gen to cash in. I can simply pretend it doesn't exsist. Like with the sonic games for a example. They were good up till Sonic Adventure 2 then after that they lack something that made them fun and enjoyable to me. I am glad MGS ended on the PS3 and Halo ended on the 360 since now M$ is doing the cash in technique of course(typical corpotions >.>). The only people that I MIGHT go with next gen is Nintendo if they can get their shit together. If not I might only buy the systems when they are dirt cheap and never brand new again.

agreed x3, D: i wonder why they took sonic and messed him up so badly though!! they had a really good with with Sonic Adventure 2... : ( it was a really really good game, i still play it!! sonic heros was super messed up T.T i didn't like it.. sad to say. Shadow the hedgehog was ok... sonic riders eh... i still haven't tried the next gen sonic, i wanna play it and see for my own eyes x3

The red ring doesn't actually mean your console is dead.  There's a bunch of sites dedicated to getting rid of the "red ring of death" when it comes on due to an accidental trip.  Basically a quick list of stuff to try before sending it back for replacement.  The 360 warranty has been good to alot of people though, hats off to them for extending it for an additional 2 years on the machines most likely to have the issue.

As for the PS3 goes, who doesn't want a Blu-Ray player and a console in one for the price of a Blu-Ray player?  They were extremely hit or miss on the titles they've released so far (Lair supposedly was going to skyrocket the system in the must-have factor, but we all know how that went XP), But they've got some good stuff now and even better stuff coming up.  The only issue I have with next generation consoles is the overall cost of ownership.  60 bucks for a game?!  Thats like 3 seasons of your favorite TV show or 3-4 good books, or a Wii game with 2 classic games.  The list goes on and on but the point is console ownership costs have been on the rise since the dreamcast (most likely sooner than that, but thats when I saw it).  If the console itself was a bit cheaper, and the games averaged around 40 or so I'd be in the market for one myself.  Unfortunately it's not, so i'm sticking to PC as they are getting cheaper as we go along, not the other way around Cheesy

Wula:  I spent how long on sunshine just to get to the end and fight bowser IN A BATHTUB?!  There was some serious disappointment goin on there.
