Hey there, all; Figured I may as well post these up here. I havn't been able to draw much lately, with so much else occupying my time, but I did manage to get this character referfence sketched up. It's a little tricky, since I'm in a bit of flux lately, but it's fairly close to what I usually go with. A Dhole-raptor hybrid, with rabbit (in the ears and nose/face), and probably a bit of shark and snake in there, too. Took lots of pics, because I'm unable to scan the whole thing in detail. Lots of writing around the edges. So, Ruby, if you want a more sculpture-worthy picture; something you can translate, I can try to do something like that for you. If you need a better colour reference, I can do a quick sketch. Actually, I may try to do that tonight and put it up if I can get through this massive pile of studying. I figure if you want to just run with the general shape and colouration into whatever lends itself to a sculpture (big paws, etc, and I would definitely imagine it wouldn't be as 'skinny' as these drawings; I know that would be pretty hard), you can really do whatever you'd like. If you want clothes (which could be pretty groovy!), maybe just regular grey jeans with a white (or black) tank top? (I'm not a huge 'bright-blue' jeans wearer, but I do wear darkish blue/grey jeans a lot.) You could goth it up, too, if you want. Anything is good, really. Tank tops are pretty much what I'm always wearing. Anything black, collar-ish or chainy is great. If you have cheap chain kicking around to use for this type of thing, I'd totally be down. And here's a dhole, for reference: (Asiatic Wild Dog) And if you're wondering why the fursona is so damned skinny, well.. here' s me right now: ] I'll try to get you a more 'sculpture-worthy', coloured reference tonight. Beautiful excuse for further procrastination. Cheers; -Lady Serpent

..And if you point out the fact that I'm wearing a pink hello-kitty band-aid, I'll probably have to kill you. It's actually my roommate's (who is also a gay fur), and they were the only ones we had in the house. I'm a little biased against pink. Cheers; -Lady Serpent / Sephren

~insert mischievious grin and shifty eyes~
Well well, pink Hello Kitty bandaid, you say? The funny part is that I probably wouldn't have even noticed it, had you not mentioned it.
The referances provided are more than adequate for me to start sculpting the form of your figurine. I will need something more decisive for the color, but I won't need that for a good while yet.
One last bit of info I do need, though; what position do you want the figurine to be in? General relaxed stance, sitting on the edge of a shelf, shrugging.........?
As soon as I know that, I can start sculpting.

Hm.. I'll let you run with that one if you want any kind of artistic liberty, but if I would offer suggestions, some kind of standing, kneeling, or sitting on a ledge would work well. Even lying down could work. I imagine standing is the hardest to make work, especially for a tall, thinnish character, but whatever you'd like to work with. Haha, there's a lot of direction for you. Do what feels natural to you, or something you'd like to explore. Barring that, do sitting on a ledge with legs hanging down, if you want a decision from me. Kind of like this cool dude, with the arms supporting the weight: http://www.worldofstock.com/stock_photos/PAD8685.phpOr, if you want to get really crazy, this pose looked kind of cool: http://www.flickr.com/photos/infocusphotos/3434546794/Heh. Have you thought about what you want in return yet? I could also just pay you back with some hot, steamy -- wait, sorry.. Public forum! Talk to you soon; -Sephren

You're not skinny! I'm skinny, I turn sideways and I disappear and very cool work.

Kapitan ~ Trust me, she's skinny as hell, I know it. If I so much as sneeze around her, I'm worried about knocking her over. XD
Seph ~ The pose I decided on is decidedly more like the first pic than the second; the second pose was just too difficult when combined with ditigrade legs. >.<
Also, as tempting as your offer is, I think that I would like a painting or two in return.
After all, I can't afford the trip off island to collect. ^.~

Nice reference there, Seph. I've always admired (And been a little intimidated I must admit) by your character. XD
I'm looking forward to seeing this figurine! :3

Update for you, Seph.
I have the basic shape sculpted, and will soon start on the finer work (ie clothing, ears, hands and feet, etc). I am going to goth it out, probably with some chain detail and a touch of hardware. Also, for the lower half, I am going to be doing knee length shorts with some specialized detailing to make them interesting. I thought about doing jeans or long pants, but then you would lose the shape of the legs, and the main point of this sculpture is how thin and almost skeletal it is, and I feel that shorts would show it off much better than pants.
Also, the idea of doing pants on a sitting ditigrade character (and making them look right) is making my eyes cross. XD

This looks awesome. I'm going to use this as a ref for your badge, if you don't mind. @Ruby can't wait to see the finished sculpture!

@ Kapitan: Thank you. @ Ruby: Haha, that's OK. I can come to you. But really, though, that pose sounds quite fine. ..and the main point of this sculpture is how thin and almost skeletal it is, and I feel that shorts would show it off much better than pants. *Purrs* Sounds good to me. If you think of what you might like for paintings, feel free to let me know. It's nice to have the sculpture reference of your character at this point, so that the colour scheme's more apparent. (Certainly not that you're limited to your character only as far as painting subject matter goes!) @Puma: even though i don't really want to be as skinny as i am. *is loosing weight at a dangerous rate* Ahh.. do you know why? That's probably not so good. @Veekahr: Mm.. thank you. I appreciate that. @TJ: Thank you. This means more to me than you know. @Daakshi: Sure, have at 'er. Though, I must say, the head close-ups really don't look like what I intended. I'm incredibly rusty when it comes to arting, especially of my own character. Ruby: Can't wait to see it; I'm very much looking forward to seeing how things turn out. ^^ -LS

@Puma: even though i don't really want to be as skinny as i am. *is loosing weight at a dangerous rate* Ahh.. do you know why? That's probably not so good. couple things, all related to depression. one, i moved back into my moms... nuff said there. two. i just got played by this girl. she leads me on for almost a month... then tosses me aside and goes for another fur... three. i work nights... so my appetite has all but disappeared

Though, I must say, the head close-ups really don't look like what I intended. I'm incredibly rusty when it comes to arting, especially of my own character. Ok, that statement makes me a touch nervous. Is the shape of the skull in your referance correct, or fairly close?
If I need to revise the head shape, I have to do so before I work on the eyes, ears and hair, so I will wait for those until I get confirmation. Also, for the tail, cross section is circular or ovoid?
For the paintings, I am putting an idea or two together. ^.~

It's just the mouth-open drawing, and the one beside it, that look a bit Derp to me, and it really could just be the way I did the eyes and 'ghosts' of hair. Should be picture #6. Otherwise, the head shape is pretty close, yea. The tail is more circular; almost more like a poofy cat's tail than a canine's. Sounds groovy. -LS
