SO I was cleanin' out my old emails and came across one sent to me in 2008... I know Old. but it's only been a few years since this study was done and it might still be fiarly accurate.

This is a List of Food and Pricess with Pics of what an Avarage Family in that Country will eat in a Week.

Italy: The Manzo family of Sicily
Food expenditure for one week: 214.36 Euros or $260.11

Germany: The Melander family of Bargteheide  (hehe, this almost looks like what my Family Gets Cheesy)
Food expenditure for one week: 375.39 Euros or $500.07

United States: The Revis family of North Carolina (Sure hope most American
families eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and less junk food than this family.)
Food expenditure for one week $341.98

Mexico: The Casales family of Cuernavaca
Food expenditure for one week: 1,862.78 Mexican Pesos or $189.09

Poland: The Sobczynscy family of Konstancin-Jeziorna
Food expenditure for one week: 582.48 Zlotys or $151.27

Egypt: The Ahmed family of Cairo
Food expenditure for one week: 387.85 Egyptian Pounds or $68.53

Ecuador: The Ayme family of Tingo
Food expenditure for one week: $31.55

Bhutan: The Namgay family of Shingkhey Village
Food expenditure for one week: 224.93 ngultrum or $5.03

Chad: The Aboubakar family of Breidjing Camp
Food expenditure for one week: 685 CFA Francs or $1.23

I think this is really cool, to see a weekly Food budget. I feel bad for that Family in Africa. But I was wondering, out of these "Avarage" Families which one do you think your weekly groceries look like? Mine is of course a lot like the German Family Tongue

If you look very closely will also notice that some of the 'poorer' families actually eat BETTER than the 'rich' families, at least when it comes to nutritional value and calorie allotment of their food.  The 'richer' families tend to squander a great deal of their food budget (both money and calorie value) on highly processed and 'junk food' filled with empty calories, fat, sugar, and sodium.  The 'poorer' families pack a lot more nutritional value into a much higher percentage of non-processed foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as grains and cereals.  Such foods also tend to be cheaper than processed foods and junk foods.

I'm not entirely sure on picking which one my family is most like....I think it's Italy,Poland and Germany smashed together XD. It sort of shifts...

It was really interesting to see this! I find it really fascinating seeing how/what other cultures eat/purchase.

Ya, ity is just amazing to see how this is all layed out, though I have to admit, seeing the avarage american stuff kinda made me feel sick X_X.... Sooo much junk food.

And ya, but one thing I noticed the Highest in price was the German food, but think I know why. (cuase when I go to the german deli it isn't even close to that price for 2 weeks) All that Beer and Fruit Juice! Tongue

Price can depend on what you eat, people think eating fast food is cheap, but the the long run its not. That easy to make frozen food i really cheap, its cheap if your in a hurry, but to eat junk food everyday, its really not worth the money, you can easily make a pizza for way cheaper then buying a frozen one or ordering one.
Its really interesting to see what people from around thw world eats.
here's one what does your family eat in a week?
Whats the cost for your family?
How many people are in your family?

I would be surprised, actually, if a few of those families go through that much food in just one week.  As Kapitan mentioned, seven containers of juice for one week, plus what looks like twelve more smaller ones in the background, is a bit excessive unless they drink a LOT of juice.  (Which seems unlikely, what with that much alcohol there, also.)   I was living in a family of five plus me and they certainly wasted a lot of food, but they didn't go through NEARLY as much as some of these families in a week.

Like the American family; three jugs of milk for four people, for just seven days?  I would think the period would have to be longer than that for the amount of food in some of these pics.

The kid on the right in the first picture has a most excellent expression.  Smiley

My own diet would probably be most similar to the one from Ecuador, except with some meat thrown in and more variety in the veggies.  I don't much do the processed food thing anymore.  (Except milk, honey, and occasional chocolate.)  And it does cost something like $20-30/week.  (Though, I am buying for just me, usually.)

Interesting topic.   Smiley

If everyone eats cereal every morning, the milk adds up.

Maybe it's a month, I really was just copying the info from my Email, so if it's wrong Blame the person that sent it to me Tongue.

I know I can go through a 4l Milk in 2 weeks, so 3 would be a lot. Plus they Don't look like they are ALL milk. I think one might be Water... Idk.

Wow, some of those pics are pretty insane.

I go through a lot of rice myself, and I do a lot of stir fries, and I can't remember the last time I bought milk. I also go through a lot of meat and junk, so I dunno which of these pictures is closest to my average grocery trip. I usually spend between 80-100 bucks for two weeks worth of food. :/

All I can say is that those Mexicans really like their cola : D

We've shifted our buying habits to include a lot more vegetables and raw foods and much less processed crap, although we do splurge from time to time. We buy almost no cola. Oh, and for two people we spend about $40 a week.

In my family three people can go through a four liter of milk in three days... So the milk could be possible.
