I wrote this story, perhaps a year or two ago, for someone I'd been looking to get together with for some time.  Mind you, it didn't work out in the end, but I nothing bitter went down, and I still love this little story, so I figured I'd share it with all of ya!

Enjoy!

Under Their Own Moon

The night was brisk, but warm, with a wind whipping gently around the trees, and into the meadow.  In the centre of the clearing, a fire stood, huge, and surrounded by many a dancer, including other folk, some with instruments, some with pots and pans, but most on their feet prancing the night away.  All manner of life, from human, to bear, to fox, to wolf, rabbit and even some cats and squirrels.

The music rose beautiful and gaily into the starlit sky, the gathering dancing all about the bonfire, happily enjoying one another's company.

Standing just off to the side, somewhat near the drinks, stood a smiling silvercross fox, his tail swinging to the rhythm, his footpaw tapping lightly in the dirt.  He wasn't one for dancing alone, so he stood around where he could see everyone else, enjoy the show, laugh along with those next to him who'd had a little too much.

Not too far from him, a small white furred cat sat, leaning back in a chair chatting rabidly about something unclear to any but her friend across from her.  She was a beautiful young kitten, short dark hair, style so uniquely as to be unmistakable.  eyes that flashed with an unexpected intensity.

The party danced and spun around, the silvercross now laughing with a tipsy falcon who was about one more belly laugh away from falling off the stool he'd perched himself on.  Before that happened, the fox thought, he should move on. With that in mind, he took his leave, wandering somewhat into the circle of dancers, lingering just on the edge, smile still bright across his face.
The kitten, her discussion with her friend having died down in it's urgency, was now gazing out over the ring of musicians and dancers, all mingling their song and laugh into t a wonderful blend that poured into the sky like someone set the rains to reverse.
It echoed across the whole wood, for miles on end, and none cared, such a good time was being had.

He turned, the fox looking along the outer edges of the crowds.  He was feeling the urge to dance, and had hope to see a nearby vixen.  Of course his eyes didn't look long.  A vixen was promptly jarred from his mind at a flash a white that dashed past him with a slight giggle, followed by another brown flash, the kitten and her friend having a lark around the dance ring.
The silvercross smiled, leaning back on a post behind him and crossing his arms lightly, watching her chase down her friend, and in turn be chased, chuckling every so often.

After a few moments, the game had lost it's appeal it seemed, as the two young felines sat themselves down just outside the dance ring.  The silvercross stood for a moment, then with a coy smile, strode over to them.

"Hello there, ladies.  Interesting game you seemed to play?  Didn't know if it was tag, dancing, or just general insanity." he smiled broadly, turning and gazing at the dancers.  the brown furred cat looking him over and saying, "Just who are you, exactly?"
He chuckled, noting that her white furred friend hadn't spoken.  She had noted something odd about this fox.  She couldn't put her finger on it, but there was something definitely different about this silvercross.  That didn't mean bad... just... different.  She raised an eyebrow, and almost as if seeing it, the silvercross turned to her, and said, "Listen, I hope you don't mind my being forward, but I m'self have too much energy, I need to work some off.  If you've still got some pep left after yer game, I'd love ta dance."

Her friend put a warding paw on the kitten's shoulders, but she seemed to pay it little mind, and smiled slightly.  "Well," she said, her voice intriguingly melodious. "I suppose it couldn't hurt."
The fox held out a paw, which she gently took, both of them smiling at one-another, and walking into the circle.  Picking up the rythem, the both of them took off in twirls spins across with the others around them, keeping each-other close as they danced, but nonetheless dancing fast and strong, laughing every now and then at the occasional stumble or trip on a stone.  The music then slowed some, as the band came down, the night was closed tight about them all and the sounds of the gathering still echoed through the miles. The kitten hesitated for a moment, then turned to return to her friend.

She would have gone too, most likely, but for the silvercross, who gently took her arm, pulling her back into the circle and laughing, "Come on, don't tell me you've only the energy for the one song?"
She blushed ever so slightly, but smiled, as they took each-other arm in arm and danced to the easy music from the tiring, but still lively musicians.

Spinning their cares and troubles away, just the two, a silvercross fox, a white kitten, dancing under the moonlit sky.  The few clouds that were in the sky that night covered the moon for only a moment, a hole in the clouds, then passing the moon, letting down a single, bright shaft of moonlight.  It shone down, lighting the two lost in each-other's dance.

Looking into one another's eyes, lost to the world, with a moonbeam all their own shining down upon them,

   Dancing, under their own moon.

There we go, have a good night, all, it being 12:44, I feel like setting things up to turn in early. *tips hat*

I thought I would just point that out so it could be fixed. 'Cause nobdy likes to be jarred out of a story becuase of a silly typeo. But it still was a good read.
