Anyone else into audio equipment? being home or car stereos, recording, or DJing

Im by far not a DJ but collect and use pro audio and vintage high end home systems

Heres my mess of a workshop... well part of it anyways


Im into listening to music very loud, So to get the results I was looking for I turned to JBL and Peavey concert PA equipment for everyday listening


what kind of setups do you guys rock out to?

I'm not gonna lie, I've not even got a slice of the tech you seem to be showin'.  Nicely done.  That being said, the only things stopping me is constant lack of funds & the concept of audio-work of any fashion has always been fascinating for me.  Still, I don't have a space in my house big enough for that equipment anyway, so it's all good I don't have it, I s'pose.  (^_^)

hehe I have bought everything used (as im into vintage) but also find stupid cheap prices along the way ...also helps to live on a farm with nobody else living close by and some friends that don't mind heavy lifting when you need to move a speaker lol

for small houses something like paradigm bookshelf speakers with a little receiver do wonders, all you need if you wish to carry a conversation at the same time

Ah, i consider myself one! and im actually the home audio department head at Visions Electronics in P.G. here, i dont have much right now because i.. well dont have the money, ha ha or the room.  but right now my equipment that i use alot is nice and simple, Two Mirage M590I Bi-polar Tower speakers (1995) a Yamaha Natural Sound Receiver, a matching Mirage Subwoofer, has two 6.5" drivers, nice and responsive with all the boom of a 12" and for my center channel and rears i have Klipsch ^.=.^ needless to say, its pretty nice in a bedroom ha ha XD and when i can hit about 105 Decibels out of home theater speakers? tis pretty decent ^.=.^

That's always a wonderful thing to have in friends, is that ability to get them to help with the lifting, be a it a speaker, or in my case, a Smart car.

Thanks for the idea, I might just do that.  As for carrying on a conversation, I think I can pull it off, as I can do it while I'm cracking out to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.  I adore that game[/offtopic]
Regardless, I'll bare that in mind, once I have the means to do something about it. (^_^)

I consider myself to be an audiophile (really don't have much as I'm a poor fur >_>) at the very least when it comes to portable audio and headphones, as of the past 6-8 months or so I've been trying to keep all my music 320CBR no less if at all possible, I know the 'proper' audiophile uses FLAC or Lossless but a) FLAC doesn't play well with mp3 players, and b) I hate Apple.
on Boxing day I picked up my first 2 pairs of semi-audiophilish headphones, some Sennheiser 438's they were on for 50 bucks, usually 130 locally so I had to grab em, absolutely WONDERFUL headphones, I'm never going back to crap quality headphones, I also own a semi-nice Yamaha 360 watt sound system a very good friend gave to me for free and 2 bookshelf sized speakers that are plenty for my single room (15X15ish) dwelling, I plan to pick up a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50's (Coiled cable version) in February for about 120, they look soooo sexy (and will isolate and keep all my music in and the outside world ENTIRELY out) I would love to invest in better equipment but a) my living space is tight and not well insulated (thin walls) and as I previously said I rarely have the kind of cash needed for good audio equipment, even used.

all i have/can afford are a pair of akg k271 studio monitors. but the wire's been sheared right through by something that was in my bag, and i cant afford another wire right now, so i'm using cheapo headphones.

Hmm, not really an audiophile, though I do work with it every day as a live audio tech. Mostly working with Meyer, Yamaha and senn gear.

Current system is a meyer melody line array driven by a Yamaha M7CL, last gig I drove a DM2k and a meyer UPA1 rig. 130DbSPL with out breaking a sweat.
