So winter is upon most of us (I know Calgary's got a Ft of snow right now). So with winter here, what do you wear most of the time?

For me, when i can get away with it (temp wise, has to be -12c or lower, or i get to hot Ugh) My wool Russian Great Coat Black. With Black Soviet Hat, Black Gloves and Scarf, and Black Combat Boots. Cheesy
Bought this stuff 3 years ago at Crown Army Surplus Cheesy Love that store!

Nothing stands out more at a bus stop then this look. Tongue and the looks I get are priceless in Calgary. Most are just laughs But some look like "Omg! Soviets are invading!"

I wear whatever I usually wear + thermal undergarments. If I lived any further north I'd probably wear my -40 snow gear.

I wear jeans and a t-shirt, plus toque and those cheap 'magic gloves'. If people yell at me enough, I'll put on either my tweed jacket or my long green woolen jacket, both with a matching scarf.

once its cold enough I usually get out my black wool overcoat (stops just shy of my knees), start wearing jeans instead of shorts (up until a week ago was STILL wearing shorts, then again I'm originally from Winterpeg Tongue) and the boots I always wear, some zip up black boots, plus I usually wear my blood red jacket underneath the coat too, keeps me super warm even in -25C, only part that gets cold are my head and sometimes my legs if the winds are strong enough.

I *LOVE* your coat Kaptain, I wonder if any army surplus places around here would carry longcoats/etc (I doubt it sadly :-( ) as my coat currently has a fairly sizeable hole underneath one of its armpit regions, isn't visible unless I lift my arm up but the poor coat is on its last year likely despite being my favourite piece of clothing of all (I absolutely ADORE longcoats, but finding them in my size seems near impossible, I lucked out on the one I have now and got it for free when a thrift store was GIVING AWAY their winter clothes stock 3 years back, its a womens coat but it fits me just fine, could use to be a smidge longer in the back but I'm not picky)

ShawdowKitten: Thanks, and Yup, nothing is better than a Great coat/Long Coat/Trench Coat What ever ya want to call it. I bought that coat 3 yeas ago and now its just at my knees. I did cost me a lot, but since it's lasted 3 years without a scuf and its Russian, I didn't mind paying 140$.
The boots on the other hand are the MOST expensive, but totally worth it, since I wear them 75% of the time For the last 4 years. (I won't lable price on the Boots. I'll just say, Mangnum Combats/Police Edition, and those I got at 911 supply, Emergency Service Supplies)

(that was when I had money, 4-3 years ago, Now I'm a student a flat broke!)

Pile lined vest and good quality down filled jacket and to keep my ears warm, a toque. Once theres enough snow, I'll dig out my winter boots.

If I'm just unning to the stor, I'll wear my cats
(I wear them year round) cargos, a t-shirt and my big arse headphones. But if I'm actually doing stuff outside, I start with a hoodie, when that gets too cold, I switch to my carhartt, when that's not enough, I'll wear the carhartt over the hoodie. Then comes the neck warmer, after that I put the liner vest into the carhartt (still with hoodie) and finally I attach the hood to the carhartt and throw on a pair of light gloves (normaly I just use the pockets). somewhere around the minus thirty mark I'll throw o my snowbarding pants. If I'm not wearing my headphones, I'll wear a touque. This get up keeps me comfortable at minus forty.

In reply to kap

I would imagine you were able to get the boots cheaper than at crown, I wanted a pair but I didn't want to pay 270 for them. Crown surplus is ridiculous. They have a stranglehold on the calgary market. My friend got his combats in vancouver for 60 bucks, and I found a pair in a thrift store for 25 (they were the wrong size) oh well, guess I have to stick with my caterpillar schmidtkickers.

I work outside, and last week it got down to around -6. I was wearing 2 pairs of socks, pajama pants over my underwear, and jeans. a long-sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, woolen jacket and another jacket. scarf, beanie, and gloves *laughs*. and even with all that on i was still cold. I'm a creature of comfort, I like to be warm

But that was work, my typical winter's gear would just be an extra layer or two on top with my scarf and beanie Smiley

Thermal underwear. Look into it.

I should really invest in some boots. Trainers don't cut it in keeping feet warm. The cold snap we're experiencing here at the minute has served as a stark reminder I need better insulated clothing. Current outfit is normally a fleece jacket, scarf and hat. No gloves yet. I just shove my hands as deep into my pockets as I can get them.

So far, I've been able to get away with just my vest and denim jacket, as it's been so warm this winter. Maybe my toque if the wind is blowing. As for my feet, my running shoes are fine, though my work boots are thinsulate. IF required, I do have some knee high winter boots.
