Rune and I have decided that we really want to go to Anthrocon next year (it just happened last month for this year), and obviously, this kind of thing takes a lot of planning. More importantly, however, I want to drive there. Yes, Pittsburgh to Vancouver Island, it's about an 8,000km round trip. I thought maybe some of you would be up for the trip as well.

Our idea was to get a minivan, and pack four of you (not counting us), and hit the road. We'd leave on the 19th of June, and be back on the island by the 2nd of July (but we'd be trying for the 1st). The con runs from Thursday the 23rd and runs until Sunday the 26th. We would be stopping each night at a pre-planned destination (like a hostel or what have you) for sleep and such.

Anyways, I thought I would troll for interest in the idea. To rent and insure a minivan for the two weeks will be about $800, and I calculated fuel (at $1.25 a litre just to be on the safe side) at about the same, so $1600 total, and with six people, that's only $300 each, there and back (or one third the price of a plane ticket).

So, who wants to go to Anthrocon? Cheesy

Hehe, Ruby has an excited! I was wondering, actually, if you could give me the recipe for hand-paws? I would LOVE to have some, though I don't know what I'll do for spots and such...but whatever! Sewing, Ho!

Also, I would like to point this out: Hotels in Pittsburgh are VERY expensive, and Hostels are completely nonexistent (trust me, I've looked!), so we MAY be thinking about finding some "other" accommodations...and by very expensive for Hotels, I mean upwards of $100 per night. I don't know about "other" places, it's kind of one of those things...but we'll keep everyone posted!

I most certainly can get you a pattern, love, and if you keep an eye out for fur, you might just find some snow leopard in the color you want, without having to worry about doing spots. ^.~

And yeah, hotels can be a bit on the high side, especially for those on a budget.

Any camping sites in the area? (just a thought)

I'm totally in. Do you guys think it is possible to do this for less than ~1000 being frugal and such?

Tonk/Pixel

Sorry to tell you guys, but I believe that this trip has been cancelled. I was talking to Dru and Jayde a while back, and, turns out that after going a certain distance in a rental vehicle, you have to start paying a fee PER KILOMETER which would make renting a van way too expensive for this trip.

*rubs chin* this reminds me of waaay back in the day... okay more like 5 years ago when Raghnall had the idea of having a purely furry community mini bus. Like get one of those little 20 seat buses that we all actually owned and could use for local events and big cons alike.

Though like all good ideas I could see a real hairy situation when it came to ownership and the like.

The dog has a gun and he refuses to take his medication.

The bathroom is 20 ft down the hall and that’s like 20 ft too far when you’re playing video games man.

Drake: I know Raghnall, and that totally sounds like him! I was just a little surprised to see his name floating around here Tongue
