I just recently found a new indie band to love on. They're an outfit called Shearwater, and they're out of Austin, TX. I found their song "The Snow Leopard" particularly nice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs_rmI1TtQE

Wow, great production, too! The drum sound especially... so huge and warm sounding. Like a fuzzy blanket. ~Josiah

I also found the lyrics:
The Snow Leopard - By Shearwater
The way is to climb The way is to lie still And let the moon do its work on your body
And then to rise Through forests and oceans of lives And through the way of the black rocks, splitting, wide, And flow Ten thousand miles.
Well, I've had enough, Wasting my body, my life I'll come away, come away from the shallows
But can this sullen child, As bound as the ox that I ride, Climb to the heart of the white wind, singing, high, And blow Through my frozen eyes?

To be honest, I'm more inclined to classify them as Indy Prog-Rock. Prog because of the epic structure of the song, the slow build, and the use of the keyboard skirls towards the end. I think they have more in common with groups like Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief, and The Black Ghosts than most of what I would classify as 'soft rock'.

Thanks for sharing, eh. Sounds a lot like they have some European influences... at least by the singer's voice sounding like it either has a Euro accent or some tonal similarities to European bands that I've admired. Hmm. Either way, good tune. Don't want to get too analytical over it. Benjamin

Just thought I'd revive this topic because my opinion of The Snow Leopard has not changed. I still feel it's one of the most achingly, freakishly beautiful songs I've ever heard in my entire life. Jonathan Meiburg (the lead singer) really sounds like a messenger from God. I also really love their song 'Leviathan Bound'. Their Black Cab Sessions version was even better than the album version, I think http://www.blackcabsessions.com/sessions.php?type=7&id=1265395261&sort=chronological
