Heyo, So iv always wanted to do the West Coast Trail ever since I started hiking...the other day I figured, why not this year?

Who: You! Me! Other People!

What:
Quote
The West Coast Trail is a grueling week-long trek on a 75 km wilderness trail along beaches and cliffs and through rainforest. Mud and dozens of ladders may make it seem like military training but that does not deter the hundreds of hikers from tackling it each year.
A quota of 26 people per day is set at each end for hiking the trail, so reservations are recommended for the peak period from mid-June to mid-September. The park allocates several stand-by spots each day thus even in peak season you should be able to find a spot within one or two days. All hikers must attend an orientation session before attempting the trail.
Bears and cougars are sometimes spotted in the park, so take the appropriate precautions.
Caution: Some sections of the trail are along cliff-rimmed beaches so careful attention must be paid to the tide schedules to avoid being trapped by rising tides.

Where:

When: To be Announced. Probably Late may/Early Summer.

How:

For those of you that don't know, the West coast trail is a 75kms of intense hiking and ladder climbing. 5-7 days hike from Bamffield to....Somewhere down between victory and Bamf Tongue  Check http://www.westcoasttrailbc.com/ for more info.

So, do we have many hikers? So far its Me + someone I know from town. I think we can have upto 10 people(Although I don't want much more then 5). This wouldn't be in any way an "event", just kinda a gathering. its also like, 100$+ for a overnight pass on the trail....so the more people, the cheaper. Although if money is a problem it doesn't matter. Someone has to pay it either way Tongue Even if it was just me I would pay the fee, so meh....

We would also prob be doing the Juan De Fuca a few weeks before as a practice run. It is alot shorter and less intense. can be done in 2-3Days.  Feel free to just come for the Juan, or skin the Juan it doesn't matter really.

If you have never been overnight hiking that is fine, I can help you gather the required gear and teach you anything you need to know.  Ill be making a supplies list at a future date.
I don't know what time of the year would be best, but I don't want to go during the busy year. So date is to be announced.

Also just fyi, this is a very intense trail for a beginner. If you can't go a full day hiking/walking with 40lb+ of gear on your back then this is not for you.

That sounds Amazing Brasou! I've heard about this trail in the past and sounds like it would be quite the adventure.

I was planning on getting in shape and quitting the cigerbutts for good this year and this would be a great goal to work towards. (Not to brag or anything, but I've gone from a pack a day to 4-6 a day! :3)

As for right now, that hike would probably kill me, literally. When were you planning on doing this?

If its not going to be for a while, then I be very interested in working to get my self to where I need to be to go! :3

On a side note, I'd be interested in going on some hikes with you sometime, if you'd be interested in letting me tag along. :3
(Also found some great rivers and lakes I've been dieing to check out, but haven't been able to because the weather has been utter shit. :/)

Great idea Brasou!

Not really sure when, the trail doesn't officially open tell may 1st, So that's a few months away at the earliest. Also my bank account is fairly empty at the moment. Borrowing the gear isn't much of a problem....but the thing about old hiking gear is, it weights a ton haha.

I would like to go in the summer, But apparently there can be a fair bit of people on the trails and the campsites get pretty crowded. So idk If I would be down for that. Prob Late may or Early Sept....But sept is to far away Tongue

Also midway there is a little tarp-tent Restaurant along the trail that serves beer/food, I imagine that would seem like heaven once you finally got there Tongue Hahaha.

Its also nice because you wouldn't have to worry about being the taxi this time Tongue since we would just take the Lady rose to Bamfield. Although I guess we could all cram into the jeep on the way to the lady rose, because its like...a 15min walk from my house....it just wouldn't feel the same without it Tongue

Yeah that sounds cool ^-^ Iv been hitting up the log train trail for the past few days, going to head out tomorrow morning and go out there on my bike, then come back on the road(if it doesn't rain). Get some cheap rain pants. Walmart (Eww) Has these cheap ones for like 30$ that look normal and work good.(Normal as in, not BRIGHT YELLOW or ORANGE) They look like track pants, and can be pulled over boots fairly easy.  The other day I went for a 3 hour walk in the rain with the rain pants, an umbrella and a sweater. It was very satisfying to return home and be dry for once rather then soaked Tongue

Hmm. Provided that I get employment and time off, this sounds like it could be very interesting.
