Hey there, all; So, I've got my camera cord back. The plan over the next while is to spend some time working on sketches, just for practice's sake. Most of them probably won't turn out to be very spectacular, and occasionally I'll be embarrassed by a few, but for the sake of practice I'll be posting them up. If you've got some feedback, feel free to toss it my way. Always happy to hear suggestions on things to improve on. And I encourage you; if you're into art, post your own sketch thread! Always great to see people working on their art. Random beast creature: ( I can see this being the title of MOST of my drawings.) A quick raptor-dhole-shark (yea, sometimes there's some shark in there) sketch, with some colour thrown in. Something drawn with the song 'Won't Back Down' going through my head. Armour concept: And a picture for Furnal Equinox's conbook: Thanks for looking; -Sephren

All of your characters are tall and slender. Quite the opposite of what I draw! I really enjoy the armor drawing, I find making battle outfits for people to be quite fun. :] What kind of paints do you use? Watercolours? Also very nice <3

Interesting how people develop their own style, eh? I find a lot of times, people tend to draw things that bring out aspects of their personalities. The possibilities there are quite endless, of course, but often you can pick out certain things in people's work that pique your curiosity like that. I quite enjoy your characters; they're very different from my own. Part of the attraction is that I know I could never draw like that without a lot of disciplined effort to change what I normally go for, so it's neat to see someone else doing it so effortlessly. Thank you. I hope to one day MAKE outfits like that, so we'll see where life takes it. Watercolours, indeed. Both of these actually have some white acrylic as well, but generally I go straight watercolour.

As always, you work is looking fantastic.
Styles are interesting, as you said in one hand, its easy for you to draw the way you do, where as it can be difficult for you to draw more cartoon-like styles. I was having a hell of a time trying to draw you in the trade we did, just because my characters usually are more cartoon style, and the anatomy is very close to a human with fur.
I see your style implements more animalistic features into the frame and form of the creature or character, and you seem to be able to pull it off easily.
Also, really cool that you got a pic into the F.E Conbook! :3

Thank you! The picture isn't in the conbook for sure, at this point, I just submitted it with the hopes that it might be. Cheers; -Sephren

Here are a few from the past few days: Beast creature: (Something like a rabbit/grasshopper in movement habits, and something like a parasaurolophus in mating displays and eating habits. The feet are splayed so it can walk in swampy areas as well as leap from mushy ground, if it needs to get to safety. (A parasaurolophus is a dinosaur: http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=hp&q=parasaurolophus&meta=&aq=0&oq=parasaur&fp=b4df0e9520ce60db) A picture for SlickDelray, because I keep seeing that quick doodle as an avatar and I feel embarassed that you're pleased enough with it to use it as an avatar. (I thought it wasn't that great, on my part..). Super-nice of you, though. Not to say that this one is very much better, (I apparently cannot draw furries very well; what a horrific tragedy for a furry who does art), but if you want to play around with it, throw some colour in there, etc, you're absolutely welcome to. An attempt at a sexy vixen-type creature: (Placed as a link because it's potentially almost sort of mature-themed.) http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/Lady_Serpent/006.jpgAnd the raptor-dhole-shark hybrid that represents a Sephren. (Decidedly less sexy.) Thanks for looking; -Lady Serpent

That's so interesting that you've got some shark in there, now... I've never seen that before, very cool way of implementing it too, with the shoulder blade-fins. Just commenting on some pieces that jump out at me-- really like the crazy spine-hair thingies on the first pic (first post), and the ones on the tip of its tail... kind of look like they'd have some sort of bioluminescent properties. Very cool pose (and raven/crow) as well. Something drawn with the song 'Won't Back Down' going through my head. [image] I really really like the coloring/shading on this one, the lack of outlines really gives it some fantastic depth, weight and texture, especially in its orangey skin and the horn/tusk things on its back. ...Where are its other two legs, though? Nifty armor design, too. Looks like something from a newer fighting game of some sort. Regarding the vixen picture and the second raptor-dhole-shark-Sephren there-- I suppose my own definition of 'sexy' is either absent or weirdly misplaced. The vixen's pose is incredibly well done though, I think. You seem to be quite good with drawing different poses, this one looks very fluid and streamlined. Very cool stuff in all, I really enjoy seeing your various kinds of art (sketches, paintings, etc). Certainly hope you post some more in here. ~Josiah

...Where are its other two legs, though Jesus christ, Josiah. Now all I can see is penis. I didn't even think it might possibly look not like another leg. Jeez. ...Jeez! On the alien creature in the first post.. you're very right! I didn't think about that, but logically, it would make sense that such structures could have bioluminescence. Otherwise they likely wouldn't be so fleshy and fragile; they'd be spines or feathers. I suppose my own definition of 'sexy' is either absent or weirdly misplaced. Nah, I agree. I actually think the Darkstalker (and thus, whatever wierd version of that translates itself into my fursona, because they have very similar body types, both being part of my brain and all) is attractive as heck, it's just not your 'typical' definition of sexy because it's uber-skinny, not especially interested in portraying itself as such, and full of sharp pointy bits. But.. I also find Hydralisks sexy. So.. I suppose we can both be a little odd in our views. I agree once again in that I find the fox's stomach and legs fairly attractive, but I'm not especially interested in large(ish) breasts or long hair. (On something so skinny, anyways. I don't mind larger breasts on larger women. But, your typical anime-style girl who's tiny with a huge chest? Blech.. (Not that this vixen is particularily large-chested, mind you.) I do think she's in a cute pose, though. Almost like she's playing around with something in her hands. Thank you very much for the feedback; always love hearing it from you. -LS

Oh... OH! Wow, I am so sorry, I didn't even realize I was visually misinterpreting that. XD I just kind of took it for granted and shrugged it off. If it helps, I can totally see it as a foot now that I know that... arg, I feel really bad, haha. Didn't even realize my mistake... For now I guess I'll just echo you: Jeeeez! Pretty much agreed on the rest of your post (no surprise there really)-- nothing inherently wrong with sharp pointy bits and such, though... it can often just be an aesthetically pleasing thing. ~Josiah

Hahaha.
So, I'm curious now; what did you think the other foot under his chin was supposed to be?
I can definately see how it's placed in exactly the wrong spot, though. I'll defiantely watch that in the future.

Ohh! A second revelation, haha... I always thought his mouth was open, and that foot was the bottom jaw-- the real bottom jaw was his tongue, raised against the roof of his mouth in some sort of call. That's how I saw it at first. I think maybe it was just the lack of shadow or somesuch that confused me on both counts. ~Josiah

Mannn Seph I absolutely adore your art! I've never really mentioned it before, but I'm sooo in love with the way you work with watercolours. I can't quite put my finger on it but I've never seen anyone with a watercolour style like yours before. (Well, and art style in general!) I always love seeing your art... it's so unique and I can totally tell that it's yours as soon as I see it! <3

Thank you, Shnell! That's a very kind thing to say. Slick; glad you like it. I actually quite like the way you've coloured the other one, there, but I just can't get it out of my head that it was a quick doodle and I felt like I should do something more. Heh. I cant' quite say that I see the bottom jaw illusion very clearly, but I'm glad you see it the way I intended it now. Thanks, all; -Sephren
