Handmade sketchbook

I posted this on my FA/DA but I wanted to show you guys here because it was a lot of work and I'm pretty proud of it. (: It's a 100% hand made sketchbook done as a project for art class. The pages were all hand sewn and the covers were made from scratch- everything is hand made! It was a lot of tedious work but it was soo worth it. The covers were done with watercolour then covered with mac-tac (a clear sheet sort of thing, kind of like lamination but softer.) The words on the neck of the book is a song title which has a special connection to the character(s) I drew, so I just felt like putting it there haha.

Anyways here's the photos, sorry it's so huge. D:

If the process wasn't so tedious, it would be neat to make them and sell them at cons and stuff.

Yeah, I'd love to make them as gifts and for commissions and stuff, but it would be sooo frustrating to make more of these XD oh well!

oh wow, that's gorgeous! i have a total thing for hand-made books, haha the watercolour is subtle but effective, and overall i think it's just about one of the cutest things i've seen in a while! even though it was a project for art class, if you were going to start selling these i would definitely pick one up.

Thank you Shnell for posting this! I just had to comment because I'm in the process of working on a hand bound book myself and a great deal of care of love really goes into projects like these...  I bought a 'renaissance art' journal a while back and wanted to make a gift for somebody special, so with a bit of backwards engineering I figured out the knots and braiding for the spine, which involves using waxed thread and leather working tools to lace through the folded paper, and went to town on creating my own.

Interesting the types of paper you used, it will be a book that grows old with you in personality and character.

Awww, that's so sweet! That's really cool that you did some backwards engineering to do that, I couldn't imagine building one of these without my art teacher telling me the steps! XD You'll have to post some photos when you're done, I'm really interested in seeing it (:!
