Ello

I don't like how if you make full fur fursuits, you lose the natural female shape(seems kinda silly to have to sew back in your curves) so I was curious if anyone had used nylon or spandex body suits as the base for their fursuit? I was looking at the ladies black ones(usually in underwear(nylon) or ballet(spandex) section). Thought it would make a nice form fitted suit without a duct tape dummy, but if you trid to add fur, would it tear/bag? I don't wanna add alot of fur as my base coat is black, just wanna add colored fur patches...

Anyone try this before? Have pictures?

I think that there was a previous conversation about this... but, i may not have ever made a fursuit before, but i dont see why that would be an issue... besides fitting the fur to the size it needs to be when worn? otherwise with could be torn off (if the spandex/whatever needs to expand further then the seams)  or wrinkle if it shrinks.... If that made any sense XD but ya... there is some really knowledgeable people on board here, so they should be able to clarify for ya ^.=.^

It would seem to make sense that if you want a form-fitted suit, you'd use spandex or nylon, but in practice there are a lot of issues with this.  Unfortunately, it's not very easy to sew fur (or foam padding, if you're looking for digigrade padding or whatnot) onto these materials as spandex and nylon aren't terribly durable, especially when you're putting holes into it with the needle.

The other issue is that once you sew fur onto a bodytight suit that's meant to be 'stretchy and flexible' (which nylon and spandex are supposed to be), it ceases to be so.  So, you might have fur that's tight on your body, but you'll probably put a lot of stress on the seams, especially around the joints.

That being said, you can easily make a skintight suit in other ways.  The best thing is to use a material that's comfortable, fairly breathable, and durable instead of spandex or nylon, (which isn't that durable) and make a skintight bodysuit that has enough 'give room' to allow pretty much any kind of movement that you're wanting to do in your suit.  Black is good, because then you can hide any 'non-fur' areas, eg: when you fur it, you can leave tiny strips of the undersuit fabric exposed (but not really visible, because they're small, black, and probably covered up with the fur), so that you have parts of the fur that aren't sewn together, just sewn to the undersuit.  This allows more flexibility of the 'seams', while still allowing it to be tight to your body.  As an added bonus, it also allows more breathability, so you keep a bit cooler.

Does that make sense?

It would be very interesting to see a polecat suit, especially one with your colours.

Cheers,

From the sounds of it your looking to do something that more like the suits worn in CATS the Broadway show.

If you notice they managed to put fur on the suit  but did so only on the shoulders and just around the bust line, and panted the rest of the body suit to look like it was furry.

This is a good place to start if your looking for form fitting. You could still make a Fur Suit "mascot" like head give in the fur on the shoulders is there to blend your head into the rest of the costume. There is also the option of making the gloves and paws that you see in most partial costumes.  Do note that the rope around the actors waist in the picture above is how they put the tails on their costumes. You could do this or something more creative to make it seem more apart of you than just tied on.

As for tacking fur onto a body suit? I would think the best way to do so is to get a VERY skilled and trusted person to hand sew the fur into place while you have the suit on. Pokie hazards might draw you away from this idea but its the best way to ensure your fur won't be too tight in areas or bag when you put your suit on. The other option you have to put the fur on to the suit is Fabric glue. You would still need to wear the suit while doing this option as well to keep the fur form fitted and to keep the glue from adhering to your skin you could  put all the fur on and then rub off the excess that bleeds through the fabric onto your skin.

also a few under garment ideas to make the body suit flush and not looking like you have under garments on is to wear seamless style panties and silicone nipple cover. which is a  ultra thin matte silicone for undetectable coverage.

Hope this helps (:<

The other option is to make a duct-tape dummy, which allows you to get body-fitting measurements without the worry of getting pricked.
