Anyone use linux(ubuntu)? After finally getting it all setup(default wireless, sound, tablet drivers not working) I don't think ill ever have any need to go back to windows. I get nearly 1 hour extra battery life on my laptop because it doesn't put nearly as big of a load on the cpu as windows does. And also doesn't get nearly as hot. All the programs you could ever need are all listed(from the internet repository) in the add/remove programs thing(Sorta like how the ipod app store is, but they are all free). Also it runs windows .exe alot better then I expected(about 10% fps loss, if that some apperntly run faster then on windows :O)
Sorry I feel like Im getting paid to push linux on you guys, hahaha, But it is just so amazing uggh.
Anyone else on linux?

I think Ubuntu and it's variants are awesome. Specifically, I see absolutely no reason why schools and educational institutions should be bullied into buying hundreds of thousands of dollars in Microsoft licensing when they could get all the functionality they need out of Edubuntu. That said, I still choose to run Macs and Mac OS X because I'm not really an "under the hood" kind of person. I'm good with computer hardware, but computer software usually frustrates me, because it doesn't typically do what it's supposed to, when it's supposed to. OSX is the closest thing I've found; all the rock-solid performance of UNIX, and all of the simplicity and (yeah, I'll admit it) eye candy and attention to detail that only Apple seems able to muster.
If PC compatible hardware is a requirement, then Ubuntu should definitely be given consideration, no matter the user's experience level.

Linux Mint is also something to keep in mind. They have a regular 6 month update schedule, are basically a flavor of Ubuntu, and they support more proprietary codecs.

heheheh... I do the tech support at my school... and we just rewrite all the programs... cloning each hardrive and changing the system registy on every box by one number and we get by liscencing issues. Of course Windows detects this and open a "Please Reginster this copy of Windows XP to rule out software pirating".... and it say ok and cancel.. when people push ok... it gets halted at our servers.... but really.. is 143 comps enough? As for Linux... i have had a lot of troubles with it.... mainly cause i dont understand what bash is >_>.. Same with what type of linux. I have tried.. linux mint, linux debian, ubuntu, kubentu, ubuntu/ kubuntu KDE, Fedora 10, 11, Fedora Core, and Linux Android I have successfully installed Fedora Core 5 on my PS3... but unfortunately... the GUI keep crashing.... Linux Debian... I installed and used on my GPhone Linux Mint/ Ubuntu/ Kubuntu/ KDE/ Red Hat/ Fedora on countless servers... All i am saying.. is that i am not one found of it.. i like my PowerBook... and I am not moving away from Apple. (esp. The MacBook Wheel.. jk jk) (psst... Windows 7 shall not prevail!)

Better watch out for the Microsoft police. Windows 7 seems to be a decent enough piece of software, but there's a different problem this time around. Windows 7 was what Windows Vista should have been, and after screwing up the Vista release as bad as they did, people are reluctant to move to 7, even though it's far better than Vista even on it's initial release. The second problem they face is that Windows 7 is pretty much for Windows what Snow Leopard is for Mac OS, but Apple is only charging $35 for a copy of their OS. The OS disc works as a full install disc, and there's only one (not seven or eight) versions of the software. Compare that to $129 for an upgrade to Windows 7 for one user. If you're going to stick with Windows, the newest version is probably the best place to be, because of Vista's performance issues and XP's sheer age. Seriously, eight years in the computer industry is forever.

I have been using Windows 7 for the last year.. maybe year and a half... works great.. crashed only once ^_^
