Very interesting and valid points, Drew and Ruby.
(Although, being quite immersed in a VERY redneck little town right now, I have to stick up for at least a few of them and say that being a 'redneck' doesn't necessarily mean that you're an uneducated, back-country hick who's proud of being stupid, just like being 'furry' doesn't mean that you're fond of putting on a fursuit and yiffing your dog. But, point understood.) I agree that not all rednecks are total jackasses; hell, I'm half redneck myself. My father is one of the biggest rednecks I know, but (very thankfully) he's harmless.
Although he did somehow manage to have part of my truck duct taped together before I'd had it a full week. XD
Just to clarify, I use the term "redneck" in two completely different ways; the first is in a loving (and somewhat patronizing) way to describe people like my father. The other is more derogatory in deffinition, and entails exactly what you summed up, Lady S.
And, for some reason, there seems to be a great deal more of the jerk ones than the harmless ones. But still, I agree that I can't classify them all as negative on the basis of personal observation. Ruby, your post is incredibly touching in some way. You make a strong point. Some do, I'll admit, though they certainly seem few and far between.
This, right here, is why I'm on these forums. We have a lovely crew of people who, for the most part, aren't socially-desensitized, clique-forming followers. True, we all have that inherint 'fear of the different' bred into us by evolution, and it's certainly a valid trait, but those who can overcome differences are the ones that are truly enjoyable to be around. Go too far in the other direction and you become dangerously close to burning witches and killing jews (Sorry, Wotan, I had to say it), just because they're different. Cheers; -Lady Serpent Thanks Lady S.
And personally? I know a few people that I would be plenty ok with skewering with a sharp stick and propping over a fire. The only thing that they have in common, though, is their general ignorance and exceptionally limited mental faculties. XD

Just for you, Wotan. And personally? I know a few people that I would be plenty ok with skewering with a sharp stick and propping over a fire. The only thing that they have in common, though, is their general ignorance and exceptionally limited mental faculties. XD Absolutely. I have no problem with burning specific people (or groups of people, provided that it's a 'fair' judement, like.. say, people who beat up old ladies), at the stake, I just didn't agree with their selection method. If I lived back in the day, there's no doubt I'd have been burned as a witch. That's the trouble, though, isn't it? Everybody believes that they have the right, to some degree or other, to pick and choose who becomes the 'ousted' group. In our case, it's just a bit more rational (Or so we like to think, anyways) with regards to selection. Hating people because they're a racial minority or a certain height class or something just doesn't seem to logically make as much sense as hating people because they're disrespectful morons. Judge people by the things they can realistically control, not the things they can't. We're talking about dating, though, aren't we? In that regard I seem to be fairly single these days, if I failed to mention it earlier. Good topic; -Lady Serpent

If I lived back in the day, there's no doubt I'd have been burned as a witch. I agree, and though a lot of parts of the justice system still need work, I am immensely grateful that you have to do more than scream "SHE'S A WITCH" to have someone persecuted.
I probably would be too, Lady S. I have a certain fondness for math. XD Hating people because they're a racial minority or a certain height class or something just doesn't seem to logically make as much sense as hating people because they're disrespectful morons. Good thing most of the people here hate gay worse than height.... Oh wait. Damn. I'm screwed either way. XD
But yeah. Singleness.
Single's awareness day is just around the corner. How are all you happily mated furs going to spend the "holiday"?

My first date wasn't a fur, and still isn't to this day... but introduced me to he furry community.
My second mate was just a friend for starters, and made fun of the furry community... either that or she was trying, and just didn't quite get it, I don't know.
I tried dating a fur after that, and it turned out to be a short explosive relationship.

My mate is also a furry, a German Shepherd/fox mix to be exact. I know that I've dated a few people short term (incredibly short term) before who weren't very open to anything really and I certainly can't see being able to hold a steady relationship with someone who isn't furry after being with puppy-fae. It's just that much more that binds us together, and I really love being able to be open about my fursona and having it embraced by another as well.

I seem to be one of the rare ones that's mated to same species. Though honestly most of the time I wasn't looking for another dragon at all. was mated to a husky once looong ago. I guess I just tend to have more luck with dragons as most of the time we all seemed to share very similar interests and outlooks on things. Trust me when it comes to getting to know someone that's pretty dang important, otherwise convos I have with other people/furs that go..
"sup?" "just drawing/chatting, you?" "im ok, im bored"
Social interest tends to die fast with people like that cause they just seem to be the perpetually bored ones or the always wanting to RP ones >.=.>
I got pretty lucky with my mate though, he actually came up to me at a time I wasn't really even caring to have a mate, and we ironically turned out to have a lot in common, an interest in cars, games (we beat the hell out of each-other before we hooked up XD), Art (dime a dozen answer in the fandom I know lol) we even had the same social dislikes XD so it was a pretty good match. Admittedly I have been more fond of a sorta "matching pair" relationship for some unknown reason, Not to say that every dragon out there would be some "good match" I know a good few I would only want to only hug with the jaws of a CAT excavation machine lol

Haha tell me about it, it wouldn't be bad if there was more hope of starting a conversation but usually you get just 1-2 word replies like "cool" "lol" after typing up like a good few sentences. You do meet the rare ones how ever that I swear you guys could talk on endlessly beyond the "how are you?" starter lines. Me and my mate met like that really, started talking about art and what not, got into personal interests and relationship talk.. and before ya knew it... XD
