I'm in, now that I, yknow, live here. As for ideas, I'm completely scrapped without a basic idea of an indoor/outdoor venue.

We could always check with the parks, some of them (like Bowen) have places to cook, as far as I know. A friend's wedding was held there, and they were cooking. All we'd need is some wood or something to burn.
Also, I think that if we started as early as we could, perhaps around 10am or so, and then took it till around 1 or 2 in the morning (the night, I guess) then everyone from multiple places could still come and have fun, and we would all get a good sleep in our beds. It's still a long time, if you think about it.
Also, if we do it outdoors, we could have activities that are more active, like some people might want to play some kind of ball or something.
As for the fees, I think that, if we managed a venue in the park or something, the price for the place would be lower, but we would also be getting people food, and more of the money would go to that, or gas, or somesuch. I think it's a good idea!
Anyways, I'm interested in hearing other people's ideas, too!

We could always check with the parks, some of them (like Bowen) have places to cook, as far as I know.

As of july the 25, all parks within the RDN have asked that you refrain from using any fire, including  the use of all gas/oil stoves and bbq's, on how the area has been so dry, this will/may be change or be removed by then, but knowing our weather you can never tell what its going to be like day to day, the forestry surveyors are predicting at least one more heat wave. I know this cause i work with the logging industry and there will be shut down till end of September due to heat and predictions of fire. The park would be a good choice, just have to keep an eye on whether or not we could cook, and have a plan if we cant by then. (now watch me be so wrong and it P*ss rain those days)

v..v sorry to "burn" up that idea..

I'm interested, and I can book those days off work.

ah.. I don't really know of any good places for it, most places i know are kinda out of the way, Spider lake, horn lake, spout lake, Deman, Hornby, a few lakes in Nanaimo, only place i know close-ish is Rathtrevor park, although it's usually busy, mostly with day camping and such. but i don't know the mobile capability of most who'd go, so i don't know who can get where. i do have a truck that can fit half dozen people or more depending on how many can squeeze together, i would just need some notice on using it, since it's at the cabin in Woss. Anyways if its needed i have stuff and things for outdoors, just ask.

and as kinda mentioned by Drew, is everyone here broke too? lol

Good points. I hadn't considered the fire ban would be extended to things like Coleman stoves, etc. Bugger. Well, let's hope it rains some before then. It's been threatening to the last few days. Also, would anyone be too unhappy with the idea of a church? Some of them have halls with kitchens in them, if I recall. It's been a long while since I've set foot in one. However, we are a "group of youths', and if they'll rent out the damn halls to punk rock concerts, I doubt we'd be able to cause more damage. Just a thought I haven't investigated yet. Smiley

I hope for a bit of the rain so it'll calm down. However, if we get rained in, or a far enough forecast, I -might- spring for the 'old room.

We'll see.

Wow, I had totally forgotten about the fire ban! Silly me Tongue Also, DON'T TELL me there's gonna be another heat wave! I barely survived the last one! 4 days of heat exhaustion sucked! (shudders).

Hey rune. Lousy weather ahoy. We might just have fire yet.

Or, yknow, I can get one of the job interviews I'm at today and afford the room.

I think you've missed my point, Mr. Fox. Smiley The problem isn't that I can't afford the room myself, nor that you could yourself, but that as a group, we should make it a group effort. It's not constructive to host meets with one person footing the majority of the bill, because everyone who comes to said meet will come to rely on that one person to provide them with a meet, which is unfair. That is also, I might add, the position that Torwin found himself in by the end of his last meet. The bill for that outing was footed by five people, if that. If we all want to have a fur meet, we should all pitch in for it. I'd like to see more use (and more value) out of our $200 than simply an empty room. If there's more incentive for people to pitch in, they're more likely to. Food, I figured, would be a great starting point, because everyone is always disappearing for food outings during our meets, or looking for rides to and from, etc.

Well Drew, is there any events in town on that weekend? Anything we can take by storm, as furries?

I know that there is the Fall Fair here in Port Alberni, though I dunno whether it is that weekend, or the one after, but there is a full range of rides and booths and games, etc. Be fun to see a bunch of furries competing against on another, or going on rides, ne?

I think it would be pretty cool to base a meet around an event, rather than around the various laptop screens that light up the night.

Myself, Kiyo, Kitsu, as well as a friend not many know, Kitasha, would be in for pretty much anything.
Though I can agree to the 'During the day till say.. 2 am' Due to the fact that.. The group of us have a prior engagement every Sunday.
Our only thing is that travel is a bit hard.. Nanaimo we can do..  But I dont think we can make it up to PA.. unfortunately.
But.. Yeah. We're up for pretty much anything. =3

However i am not big on the outside idea but it could be fun.

No worries, we won't be hosting from Port Alberni. There is a core group of furs that always comes down for us in Port, but it definitely makes things harder on those who aren't in the Island's middle.

Thanks for the feedback Tonk. Smiley Inside is fine, and will probably be necessary once summer's out, but the all-nighter is hard to pull because it definitely trashes everyone, and then in the morning we're just zombies. I'll keep this in mind.

By the way, everyone, thanks again for your patience. FurBQ is now a done deal, so after I take a day or so to recover and buy groceries, I'll start looking at places of interest for the meet. Smiley I'll keep you posted.

I hope your a$$ recovers, Dru.  Wink

If the weather is decent that weekend we might want to consider doing something like a beach trip, or, if it isn't, a trip to a pool.

Other ideas are movies, bowling, or arcades, which can follow a meal. (With us paying our own way, of course.)
