Ok, So, I wanted to make experiment on how to do the eyes I want on my suit. So, I took two peces of Foam and carved a hole in it... then, I did this and that... Now, It's a fursuit hed. I have Some photos If you want... But, the Thing is... I don't have anny materials. So, I need two things done before to wear it really...
First, I need to know what I will put as a "skin" on it. I need to know what Kind of material I shouild put there... Second, On the material I talked before, I want to glue some scales. but, I don't know What should be the mats for the scales... I tought Wood chips, or maybe Some ceramics, but that would be heavy... Maybe some Fiberglass, Lot of hard work, dunno the result... Maybe you can come out with some mats here? I need ideas!
Thank you... I really think It could be some kind of awsome Suit head!Just need your advice! Thank you in advance...

If you want 'skin' you could use a spandex-y type material or fleece. But if you mean fur, then just buy some fake fur and glue it on there using a duct tape pattern. For scales, you could use colored foamies that you can buy at Walmart. It you want to give it some shine, you could try painting on a few layers of clear nail polish. It will smell for a bit, so you should let it sit for a while after putting on the nail polish. Put the nail polish on last.
I've never heard of anyone else using nail polish for fursuit work, but I've used it to shine up some sculpey teeth and it worked good. I'm not quite sure how the polish would behave on foam though...

Thank you... Yes I realy ment Skin, something to put under the scales, Not fur. I plan to maybe put some fur on it, but, I have to find a shop with faux fur. I only saw real fur out there here... I don't like the idea!
And, Thank you for the Idea of the foam, but... I don't know what kind of réalism I can have from it... I'll give it a try!

If you want something like skin and then want to make some parts look scaly, there are some fabrics that have a scaled print on them, or they are a spandex fabric with a faux snakeskin pattern, should I say.
You could also check into places like walmart for oversized sequins, the ones that are the size of a quarter with a single hole near one edge. They are round, but would give a more texturized look and feel to the scaled sections. Plus, those things come in a myriad of different colors, matte, gloss, mettalic, you name it. If you can't find them at big box stores, check around some bead shops. They should be fairly easy to find.
I hope that info helps you. ^^

just 2 make up something off the top of my head... try cutting into the foam with nail cutters 2 make a scale pattern, might take a while to cover the head with the pattern evenly and then spray paint the whole head,with whatever coulor u want make sure the spay paint is meant for synthetic surfaces like plastic/fiberglass/foam, in several thin coats let it dry evenly between each coat, than if u want it shinny go over it with a clear topcoat. i don't know if it will work so test it out on scrap foam before using it on your head if i were a scaly i would try

Hey there, mate;
Not sure if you're still working on your fursuit, but I figured I'd drop you a PM as well as a message, as I havn't seen you around lately.
If you're looking for something to put under the scales as a base, a cheap and relatively easy idea is to take clean empty milk jugs, and cut the scales from that. There's a great curved portion of milk jugs that could work nicely, or you can just use the flatter parts if you're looking for flat scales.
Might be hard to get enough if you don't save them, but you can probably ask friends or familiy to save them for you and you'll get a fair number quite quickly.
Hope that helps.
Cheers; -Lady Serpent
