Those are some intense shots.
Yea, the wind has been rediculous, especially last night. I was driving with the canoe tied to my truck and it nearly blew the truck onto two wheels before slipping the ropes and sliding. It was tied quite tightly, too. A terrible time to have a fire, for sure.
We aren't getting that much smoke anymore down here; it's fairly clear skies because the wind's not blowing it our way anymore.
If you can get any more shots, definately post them up. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad up there.
Shewolf's probably out there somewhere.

Forest fires do the woods wonders! It releases nitrogen back into the ground etc, and everything grows back in 10x better and more lush It just causes havoc in the mean time >.>

Forest fires are nature's way of cleaning house, and have happened long before we could do anything about it. Much like everything else in nature, we feel the need to crush this natural process to protect our way of life. However, one also has to consider the number of forest fires caused by ignoramuses who throw cigarette butts out of car windows and other stupid shit like that. It's like Smokey says. "Only you can prevent forest fires!" Prevent, perhaps, but not cure.

I was watching the coverage of the fires today, and I'm surprised our water bombers aren't over there contributing.
What really makes me sick at heart is when people leave their animals in their homes when they are told to evacuate. There was a section of the news talking about people from the SPCA having to rush back into evacuated areas and try to rescue the animals left behind.
Personally, if I had to choose between using the couple of minutes I had to evacuate, I would grab my animals and my clothes, not freakin' valuables.
Material items can be replaced eventually. Companions cannot.

The reason you don't see any Martin Mars out there is because the government in their infinite wisdom contracted one of the two that we have to California for the summer. Way to go us. I agree about the pets 100%. Every time we've had a fire alarm go off in our apartment complex, the list is simple: clothes (we're usually in bed when it goes off), wallet & keys, and cats. Then we get the hell out. Takes 30 seconds, tops, from when my feet hit the floor to when I'm out the door. These people have absolutely no excuse. If they think it's easier to leave their pets behind they shouldn't be allowed to keep them. Pets require time, devotion, and a lot of sacrifice.

Heh, heh. It's like having been camping all weekend.
Glad they're out, though. ...Secretly I wish they were huge and chaotic and destruc-- I mean, yea, glad they're out. >_>
I don't know why, but seeing mild disasters makes me wish they'd keep going into huge ones. Not that I'd ever wish harm on anyone or anyone's property, but there's definately a desire somewhere in there to see chaos whether it's actually in my personality or something more subliminal. Post-apocalyptic fetishism, perhaps.
Rain's coming, though, so that should be good to keep things calm.

The one near Gallagher lake here was put out. The ones in Kelowna, as far as I know, are relatively contained and on their way out. I could be wrong, though; I havn't listened to the radio all day.
It's pretty clear out this way; the mild rain is certainly helping.

The fires made my travel plans rather interesting as I had started to hear about them on the ferry on my way back to Vancouver. I was gonna go that way, back through vernon and such, but decided it would be best stay on teh trans canada and avoid the traffic.
Sure made for some interesting news though.

I'm in Kelowna for a wedding right now, and it looks to me like there's a fire going on right now..Huge cloud of smoke on one of the mountains.

Smoke started to clear up later on in the day, but MAN was it humid. Black dress = BAD IDEA.
