How many ppl here draw/like Taurs? (animal bodied with human/anthro torso where head would be like a greek centaur) Anyone seen/drawn some unqiue taurs other then horses, canines & felines? Anyone have a strictly taur fursona, not anthro/feral?
Posting a pic of a rat taur maiden I drew, very sweet looking. 1st taur drawing of mine ever posted.

Very cute! I actually started looking into Taurs a while back, especially Chakats. They're really interesting to read about, but I could never draw one, I don't think. I have trouble enough drawing animals as it is. xD;

Lorelli, chakats were the 1st taurs(tother then centaurs) I've seen & became interested too. Good thing about them is that you can use both human & animal drawing skills. Love to see you try, specially a birdie
*giggles at the image of rat bucking bronco vs. foxy* poor Pixel...though I'd try too...

The taurs I doodle mostly don't count cause they're bugs. Need more spider taurs imo.

Don't see why bugs can't count. Driders from fantasty books are pretty much spider taurs

Mm, taurs can be quite neat. That being said, I do appreciate a well-balanced taur; often they look to have oddly proportioned bodies or misfunctional skeletal systems and it just doesn't work well anatomically. Those that do, though, look quite neat. Can't say I'm a huge fan of your typical chakats and the like, but only because I'm not really personally interested in the backstory/universe they're portrayed in. Centaurs, though, and taur-like creatures in general; they can be quite neat. From the Animorphs series, the Andelites (blue alien taurs) are quite the creation.. hopefully at some point I'll be rigging up a costume of such a creature, but it likely won't be for a few years, yet. Nice rat-taur; you don't often see too many of those around. Pity; rats are neat critters.

I don't have much of a problem with mythological 'taurs, such as centaurs, satyrs, fauns, and minotaurs, as it's usually clear that they're strictly in the context of fantastical stories and art.
With that said, chakats are a completely different matter, as both their 'creator', and many of the folks who play such characters have tried to take their beloved hexapod morphadite chimaeras beyond the realm of fantasy and into some sort of pseudo-reality... There's just way too much 'toon physics and 'toon biology going on that it gives my poor, scholarly brain a migraine to even contemplate.

I'm really quite fond of taurs and have to hand it to the cultures that came up with them, but I think I've always had a bit of an issue with ones that have the body of, say, a tiger and then the torso of an anthropomorphized tiger (that's not to say that I dislike the art -- quite the contrary, usually -- just that the logic involved has always baffled me a little).
The main issue for me, I think, is that a taur can be compared to gryphons and hippogriffs in that it's front half is one species and it's back half is another entirely. I mean, you'll never find a hippogriff consisting of eagle up front and hooved eagle in back with no other horse traits present (granted, you should never find a hippogriff at all, given their origins). Clearly, there's still human involved with the taurs' torsos, but at the same time, why not mix up the species a bit? There are so many combinations that could be possible, yet I've only seen a couple people that take advantage of them. Ah well, each to his/her own, I suppose.

That's a very good point, Grace; I've never thought of it that way before but the concept does seem to be a bit 'over-furrified' when you think about an anthropomorphic torso melded onto an already-animal lower half.
Not sure that a 'taur', by the definition that seems to be present, could really logically be any other blend of critters other than a 'humanoid or furry' and an 'animal', though. The 'humanoid' upper torso works much better than, say, a rat upper torso on a tiger lower body, in my mind. But, are you referring more to the idea that you could have an anthropomorphised rat-torso on a tiger body? That would seem to make more sense.

The second one's definitely what I'm leaning towards; otherwise, it would be closer to a veeerrryyy unfortunate gryph-thing or something, eheh.
