Alright, so I'm sure we are all aware that FurBQ will not be happening this year *cries* But I have been tossing the idea around, and I have seen that others have been thinking about having one on the island. I know nothing could ever take the epic place of the real FurBQ, but it would be nice to have something this summer.
I have been thinking about a FurBq-like weekend in Tofino. However I didn't want to say anything since AlanTabby was going to host an event at his lovely home in Duncan, and I didn't want to conflict with that. Unfortunately it MAY not happen this year, so I thought I would try and get some feedback about a possible Tofino Furry Camping Trip. Some of you may not know much about Tofino, so I'll be glad to tell you about. It is a beautiful little town on the west coast of Vancouver Island, home of one the most beautiful beaches on the island. Long Beach has been voted the Surfer Capital of Canada. If your not into surfing, then the beauty of the area will most definably make up for it. The town of Tofino is tiny, but hosts a variety of small, but wonderful shops and restaurants. I have been making a few trips up there in the past months, scoping out some places where such an event could take place. I have found a few nice ones, but I couldn't get much information due to the fact that it was winter, and most of the grounds were closed. I plan to make more trips up in the coming weeks to do more research into the area around Tofino. The one downside is it is quiet a journey to get there. Especially for those coming from the Mainland. From Nanaimo to Tofino is 206 KM and is about a 3 1/2 hour drive. The event will most likely be scheduled some time in August, but the date is easy enough to change at this point. So I guess my questions are how many would be interested in attending? & what kind of things/games/events would you like to see at this event?

Given adequate notice, you'll totally see me in on this Blue. I was born in Tofino, and have visited since, so no selling is needed at my end. I'll bring my tent, bags, plushies, and my camera. Smiley As long as my car feels up to it.

I'll pick you up if your car quits  Smiley
BTW, if you have any insight to more secluded parts of Tofino where we could camp, or any neat things we should do or see, that would be fantastic. I've found one, and I'm just waiting on a response from them. However, if we go with them, it looks like we may have to put a 30 fur cap on the event, though I doubt we'll have 30 furs show up hehe

I'd love to have a weekend in Tofino! It's been a while since I've been there, and I just love Long Beach. Much blankets and camera will be brought. Smiley

I would absolutely LOVE to come! I've wanted to attend a FurBQ for some time... Heck, I've never even met a fellow Fur face to face yet, dispite how much I've wanted to. Living in secrecy is sucky because of all the Furry hate brought on by people who act before they think, or even take time to understand what they're looking at.

I love the idea of Tofino. Not sure how I'd get up there... Would really appreciate a ride of a fellow fur is willing when the time comes. :S I have no vehicle, or a drivers licence for that matter.

I think bon fires, surfing, beach games, exploration, and etc would make for some really fun activities. Maybe even set up a mini Archery range? I found ALOT of fun in that as a child.

You should try to make it to one of are meets in nanaimo. The hotel is very near the bus so alot of furs get here that way.

Campstove toast! Mmmm... I love cooking with the campstove. Total awesomeness. Also, we could do a meal where we wrap it in tinfoil and throw it in the embers of the fire for awhile. I'd have to look up exactly how that works, ingredients, timing, etc, but I've had it before at a camp when i was in Cub Scouts and it was amazing.

I do that all the time. Except it's usually just mushrooms and onions and garlic for burgers.

But hey, I'm willing to eat fire-roasted veggies at camp. Cheesy

Depending on when and my financial circumstances at that point, I may attend. As for events, I'd prefer none, but I understand that some people need activities or else they get bored (bizarrely, activities are more likely to bore me than random socialization). If I attend, I also plan to bring books so I have something to focus on if/when people pull out their fursuits. I find that they disquiet me in fundamental ways, much like clowns affect some other people.

Also, should I be doing well financially when this meetup occurs, what is the consensus on alcohol? Ideally, I'd like to be at least a little tipsy. Makes reading Russian history books written during the Cold War far, far more interesting.

I'd definetly be down with attending. I just need to know how to get to Tofino from Nanaimo... I'd use transit to get to a ferry to get to Nanaimo.

I'd love to be able to go. Attended FurBbq a few years back & that was cool. Planning to see Tofino this summer anyway. If its on a weekend & I have a ride from someone else in Victoria, I could probably go.  I have a mini tent (fits 1, maybe 2 mates) & a larger 6 person tent(fits a car I swear). Portable stove too somewhere.

Games, capture the flag, hunt the rabbit, hide & seek etc

Note to Rain's comment. Alcohol can be dangerous mix at this sort of thing(many events forbid it for that reason) & also tends to make some ppl really uncomfortable.

How unfortunate. I don't believe I'll be going to many events, if any, in that case. It's disappointing that irresponsible and emotionally immature people are preventing me from enjoying myself.

Well, Rain, alot of the furs on the island also happen not to be legal drinking age either.
You shouldn't need alcohol to have fun either...just ask anyone who has been attending the Nainamo furmeets.

Don't want to put words in Blues mouth but when we were talking about it earlier this week he was quite clear he was keeping it a PG event, no booze or drugs, and anyone found with said objects well be escorted away from our camp site. So yeah

It's a little rash to call people irresponsible and emotionally immature for not appreciating alcohol on the premises - I personally don't like having to deal with drunk people at a time we should all be having fun - not babysitting each other and being obnoxious, making crude jokes, etc. All the island furmeets up to this point, to my knowledge, have been drug and alcohol free, and we all have a blast. Also, like Alan said, not all furs attending would be of legal drinking age.
Not to be rude, but if you're the type of person who needs alcohol to have a good time, maybe it's best you didn't come.

I think that sounds like a great idea!
I'd try and make an effort to show up, but it's kinda scary if your only a 14 year old girl, going to a get-together consisting of mostly guys whose age ranges from 17-25  Lookaround
