Hey guys! I figured I'd toss out something I'm working on (but haven't had much opportunity to do so in the last LONG while).

I'm working to build a website called Curved Perspective, which will focus on articles, essays, news, and events directly related to people who view the world in a unique light, primarily those who are willing to put aside differences when looking at the world around them and how it works.

It's not a clear liberal / conservative split, as we're not out to say "You're wrong because you believe x.", and it's also not so much an agnostic versus a religious debate, as we're not out to say "You can't set the rules up this way.". It's more of a base list of tenets that everything is structured around without conforming everything to a set mold.

Everything is still in the works, but I figured I'd toss this up here if anyone is interested in becoming involved with such an effort.

Woo!

It sounds like an interesting and worthy project. Am not sure if I can promise any time for it though, since I have my own stuff that I need to take care of first and foremost.

What sort of things do you need help with?

Luckily at this point, it's not something that specifically needs any outright help. I'm mainly looking for bodies willing to support than any particular skill. Once I get the edges of the concept fleshed out, it will push itself forwards easily.

What I primarily need help with, essentially, is methods of administration, figuring out the 'best way' to set things up, how to lead a movement, etcetera.

It's all terribly vague, I know. ^^;

Yeah, it is rather vague.
Understandably, it's a bit difficult to help out when there's not much direction to a project. I'm sure you'll have plenty of support once you have a proper direction laid out in which you need to go with this project.

I am very interested in this.  Let me know how progress goes.

Hmmmm (scratches mane), I don't want to sound like I'm having a knee-jerk reaction to this, so feel free to put me in my place if I get this wrong:

As I see it, you want to make a website that wants to show examples of how people of different mindsets can not only get along, but also accomplish great things, while also deconstructing the many moral codes that exist in societies (and within those societies), to reveal basic "tenants", that we all share.

I personally believe that such basic tenants do exist, and would love to support you in this endeavor  Smiley, however I am totally useless when it comes to creating and managing webpages  Sad

That's not exactly what I was getting at, but at the same time, it's precisely something that I'd like to do.

Basically at the outset, I'm looking for the waxing philosophical (which I see very much in your response) that have their own opinion that doesn't fit in the mainstream culture way of thinking. Given that mainstream culture typically thinks in black and white, straight and narrow, that's not that hard. There are so many moral codes that say "Do this, and don't do that." as if they are the set rule to live by. Granted, some of these are very important rules and show up in numerous cultures, but it's winnowing the rules down to the basic ideas as opposed to the fanatical concepts.

I'd be very interested in having you involved, as well as you, Seamus!

PS. You totally don't have to worry about the website design aspect. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get that covered. Wink

"BusinessName
yoursloganhere" (lulz)

It would certainly be interesting (I suppose I'm going for much the same idea, myself), but I'm a bit sketchy on exactly what you wanted the site to act as. It's FOR the people of a curved perspective, but in what way? News? Games? Just little bits of everything that suit us well but which the general populace hates?
Anyway, I'm not sure what I could do, but if you find a task I'd be glad to execute it.

Yeah, for some dumb reason, every once in a while the Flash thing shows up the default values. I need to jigger that and figure out exactly what's going wrong.

Besides that, I'll generate something in the near future to give a better idea of the exact site intent. My problem is namely acquiring time to make my idea understood. Smiley

I'm not sure if this has been done before, but I'm contemplating the following design:

CurvedPerspective as a News Site.

Basically, have a website that offers unbiased representations of events and such associated with a number of different communities that, more often than not, the standard media either gets horribly wrong (did anyone watch that news response to Anthrocon? Granted, they didn't get it all wrong, but their definitions sound like they grabbed it from Urban Dictionary) or outright vilifies.

This could include furry, various sexualities, and other hot topics.

Thoughts on this? What could I do to increase content? What could I do to broaden interest and focus on the site?

Everyone's knocking off digg these days, furry in particular has already been covered at http://furryne.ws . You might have a hard time finding a niche, good luck!

It's not so much a Digg concept, inasmuch as Digg is reporting news that has already been posted elsewhere. My concept is more to the 'representative news' concept, where a site would be able to post news reports, do interviews, and present facts as an impartial third party, possibly with some actual knowledge of the groups they're interviewing. It's not a right wing conservative writing up an interview with a left wing liberal, it's actually getting a middle-stance or non-political person to do the interview, stating the facts for what they are, as opposed to how they differ from the ideology of the interviewer.

Well, furryne.ws sometimes does editorials and the guy who runs it likes to pursue investigative journalism. http://clawcast.com/ is more the format you're talking about but it uses an audio medium.

I'll take a look-see and figure out if it changes my mind or at least my method at all.

I think this is the third design layout I've seen the site in.

So how are things coming along? If you can give me the basic layoutness of the site (rendered down to specific 'kinds' of things you want on the site), I can try coming up with concepts or maps or whatsuchhaveyounot.
