Now, I know laptops get friggen warm, and there's billions of ways to cool 'er down. What's furry.ca's preferred method? Fan overclocking? New heatsink? Watercooling?
I'm getting a new fan+heatsink combo put in eventually. Thing gets warm when gaming.

I actually just put my hands on the laptop to warm them up. Sucks the heat right out of it. No, really, though. I wish I were kidding.

I think all laptops get generally warm when you're on them. I know mine does, it keeps my stomach all warm when i'm in bed ^_^

I just make sure it's on a flat surface so that the vents are clear and air can flow freely. If the laptop is on my lap, I place a book in between the two.

If your laptop is hot enough that you can't keep it on your lap, it has a problem. The #1 problem is : bad design. #2 problem: intentionally bad design. #1 and #2 are in a close race.

well, i know on all of my PC's i "overclock" the fans, or just put intelligent fan control settings on, as for a laptop you could try that but a cooling mat works great.

Get a can of compressed air and take it apart(If its not on warranty anymore) and clean it out. if it is on warranty just spray out the vents. My mate has the same laptop as you(well one modle # lower then yours) And I noticed his fans hardly make ANY noise compared to my laptop when they are both at 100%. I think acer didnt put a power-ful enough cooler inside thoose laptop. I can easily burn myself if I keep my hand in front of my laptops exhaust for the fans, but not so with my mates.(Although his case gets really hot, and mine doesnt) So my guess would be overclock the fan, or get a better one but expect more noise I guess.

Like i said at the meet blow it out with some compressed air and my acer laptop had heat issued until they replaced my board. It also had very low fps at random like fof was having aswell as high cpu usage from audiodg.exe(was also high while fof was lagging). Both of those issues were fixed when they replaced my board so that could be the problem. You could also reseat the heatsinks with some good tim like mx-2 or as5. I did that with mine and saw a huge improvement in temps. This is not a bad idea anyway since when i got my acer back from servicing there were just 2 tiny dabs of tim on the heatsink which only covered about 20% of the chip(It was running at 75c and went down to 46 after reseating). You also should get speedfan or something els that you can monitor your temps with if you don't already have something.

Oh, I've since fixed most of it, and I love your theories/inputs/suggesstions. One thing I found, was that the vents underneath my laptop were -covered from the inside.- So I peeled off the mesh and BAM, 20 degree temp drop. I definitely plan to replace the fan/heatsinks in here, and I did give 'er a good cleaning.

My own intake fan would be a custom job. The fan sits in an aluminum block.

Oh yeah, like a 16 inch metal mat that has computer fans built into it so it cools the bottom of your laptop, right?
