Feral!, the furry summer camp!

Snagged from the Feral! web site itself...

Camp Feral! is a summer camp run by furries, for furries in the Canadian wilderness of Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada. We are a unique event loaded with activities and events that are simply not available at any other convention! Not only are there art and writing workshops, but also summer camp activities such as wall climbing, windsurfing, archery, a ropes course and many more! We also offer activities that have become traditional over our 10 year history, including Predator Versus Prey games, Capture the Flag, as well as original events such as the musician’s circle, poetry corner, and our dances held in a cabin in the woods! It is simply a fantastic experience for all furs who are fans of the great outdoors!</snag>

When: August 24 to 28, 2008
Where: Camp Arowhon, Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada

Please note that this board is intended as an unofficial forum at which to discuss Feral! and it's related goings on. Feral!'s web site has it's own official forum you can log into if you happen to be registered for the event. Enjoy!

I want to go, but I totally don't think I can afford the registration fee. We'll see about next year. I hope everyone has an awesome time!

Yeah, it might look like a big sticker price, but at least it does cover you for all meals and accomodations and whatnot. Hotel cons can often be a lot more expensive, unless you know how to do them for cheap. Ugh

Oh most definitely. From what I've heard you definitely get your money's worth at Feral!, however I've got all cons and such ixnayed for the near future until things get better for me.

I want to go to cons again. T_T The last time I was at one was back in 2004.

I would love to attend but the lack of money makes it impossible. One of us furs should start something like this in Nova Scotia or in New Brunswick.

or shop around, i know of a few places in Ottawa that are still decent yet, $50-75 cheaper then the brand name one down the street

If it wasn't for transportation, and the fact that i sent to just stand in the corner being anti-social weren't issues, I'd consider going

There'd be too much wanton blood-letting. Besides, what do we have here that can compare to the awesomeness of Algonquin. =P

There are some glorious cliffs and beaches in New Brunswick(and prolly Nova Scotia) that would, by their very nature, shame every park out there. Seriously, I've seen things that I didn't think were physically possible. I love our coastline. But yeah, still hard to get the attendance.

I really wish there was some kind of maritime fur event, I'd go without question. Period. Fullstop. Even without alcohol, though I'd prolly just arrange something with folks anyway. We have enough people in the region to make it worthwhile, we just need someone to pick up the gauntlet and make it happen.

I would really love to go. I have wanted to ever since I learned about it years ago.
The main problem is having no one to go with and generally being worried about feeling awkward around all the guys.
All the pictures I see are just of loads of guys lol! My friends don't want to go because 1) the price tag (which is actually a good deal IMO) and 2) they aren't into the "furry" subculture which is sad because the workshops have always looked like loads of fun!

I'd like to go, though, the new age limit coupled with my lack of funds makes it so I wont be able to go this year, or the next couple if the age limit is kept at 19.

There is indeed!

The price tag may look a little hefty, but you definitely get your money's worth!

Yup I emailing that email but my hotmail keeps on saying that it's a failure. So I don't know why it won't work. I just want to know how to get there via plane since I'm from Halifax and not Ontario and also when the deadline is for registration.

Heyas!  Sorry for the late arrival...when the forums went down I kinda focused on the forums on the site.  Wotan was nice enough to notify me that these were back up and active Smiley

Firstly, Registration deadline is a floating kind of thing.  We have accepted registrations literally up to 24 hours before the camp started in the past...but that's also always caused stress and confusion among staff Wink  We suggest you register anytime you like and pay when you can (you don't have to pay immediately when you register)  As for payments, we obviously prefer them as early as possible, before mid August at the latest, but if your situation is difficult you can contact us directly and set up a later date.  Payments on site are accepted, but please make sure we knew you were actually attending since many registrations per year are 'cancelled' when the camper does not reply to our requests for confirmation of attendance Wink

Those wondering about the 19+ there is an answer in the FAQ on the site, but the short story of it is that minors increase the already large insurance we pay for the camp.  In the past when we'd have 7 or 8 minors it wasn't as visible, but the last two years the majority of minors who registered did not attend, and last year only two managed to arrive.  Considering being all-ages doubles our insurance costs, and we already don't make much money as it is, we decided this year we'd test out being 19+.  I can't guarantee 2009 will change, but this year is obviously an experiment to see if it works.

Finally...our mailing system went down for a few weeks there...it's back up and running so info@campferal.org emails will now get to us Smiley

Yay Smiley  Any other questions?
