Just hit 400 furs on the locals list a couple days ago. Been getting lots of suggestions to not have everone on the same page and be able to sort them by city so I did some work and set that up: http://www.furnation.com/toronto/members/index.html

Good stuff. That'll likely help in the long run, in order to keep things sorted out and to keep page loading times to a minimum. Benjamin

Congrats!
Perhaps it would be advantageous to have different lists (for example/ sort by name, city, gender etc.) I know there is already some there, but the more the better in my opinion.

If you start doing stuff like that, you'd need to set it up into an actual database and run it that way or else you'd go insane from having to crosspost all of your profiles throughout multiple documents. Benjamin

Well, you can still be surrounded by furs but have problems relating to any of them. I know how that can be! I'm very selective in who I call a proper friend, really. Benjamin

I got it set up pretty nice right now where I can just edit the information in a text file and the rest is automated. Being able to sort by every field though, yeah, I'd have to set it up in a database--which is probably going to be done eventually with some help.

Yeah, I had a friend that was gonna do a database driven version of FurryIM with me... and he was working on programming it for the longest time... but that project kinda stalled at a stage of near completion and never got done. And so a great site fizzled. Heheh. Ah well. Such is the fandom. Benjamin

Such is the case, typically. All the great ideas lack the power of implementation.
Regardless, the Toronto community is fairly diverse inasmuch as it is very polarized in each individual. While diversity breeds complexity, it also runs into the issue that some groups just aren't compatible with others, which relates directly to Benjamin's comment regarding the fact that it's not just "There are X number of people in the Toronto area" as it is "I get along with X many people that are in the group of people in the Toronto area."
And I'm looking at the list. Is there any way to establish exactly how many of the 400 are actually in Toronto as opposed to Ottawa, BC, and other such locations?

It can be difficult to find a lot of friendships in a local fur group. Or it can be easy, depending upon what you're looking for. A lot of the furs that are listed on these sites tend not to even come out to events for various reasons. Either busy with other aspects of life or just not so interested in hanging with fellow furs. Many people find little in common with fellow furs, beyond the simple interest in furry characters. Many are just too shy and don't communicate terribly well. Always having new people can be a challenge, but it's a reality we all deal with on a daily basis. There're many reasons why a person can feel lonely in a crowded room, after all. It's not an issue that's unique to the furry fandom, of course. Benjamin
