Im curious to know, would anyone be interested in a contest even if there was no prize?

I would say no, simply because I'm into art trades more than contests, and if I did enter a contest, I'd rather draw for a contest with a prize than to compete with others for no prize.  (It's the competing that I don't like; I wouldn't want to compete just to have someone say 'you did the best, good job!' because I don't like that kind of praise.)

Some people might, though!

It's true, this is why a lot of the art-trade groups that do drawings for free based off of a subject, are so popular. The best part about drawing, is for the enjoyment of the process of creating, with the final result being a bonus to the experience. I'm really admiring conceptart.org for their community in regards to that, the 'daily sketch club' always has interesting art from all skill levels.

"Cats," he said eventually. "Cats are nice."
