Heya! Smiley

Just got the preliminary info about Camp Feral!  Canada's first furry con, furry's only summer camp, and one of the longest-lasting furry cons ever!!

Camp Feral! 2009
August 29th to September 2nd
(the weekend before Labour Day)
Camp Arowhon, Algonquin Park

Camp Feral! is entering it's 12th year and is happy to return to beautiful Camp Arowhon in Algonquin Park: surrounded by trees, nestled on Lake Tee Pee, a rustic summer camp founded in the 1930s and run by a staff who ADORES THE FURRIES Smiley  As always registration includes five days and four nights of activities, events, lodging and three meals a day.  That's right, it's all inclusive!

Our special guests in 2009 will be FLAIN FALCON, host of Clawcast and the upcoming Anthropodcast, and KYELL GOLD, author of the furry novels Volle, Pendant of Fortune, and Waterways!  As other artists, writers and musicians sign on we'll letcha know on the website!

I'll keep an eye on this thread as best I can to answer any questions you may have. Smiley

Algonquin Park is about an hour west of Ottawa, so it depends on which route you take. If you turn off the Trans Canada when you're entering Ontario and take the local highways, you could easily trim half a day off your travel time. but if you follow the highway down to Toronto you have to backtrack up to Ottawa and then head west, which like I said, is about six hours (it would be four if you didn't have to crawl through Toronto at 30km/h).

I'd say budget for three days even with the short cut, four if it's your first time driving up there (accounting for stopping, looking at cool stuff, asking for directions, etc). Five if you drive through Toronto. You'll make it just into Alberta on day one, can probably skitter across Saskatchewan and Manitoba on day two, and day three driving through northern Ontario to get to Algonquin. That's petal-on-the-floor, stopping-for-bathroom-breaks-only style traveling, however. Smiley

New information courtesy of our inimitable Potoroo:

HEYA CAMPERS!!!!

Wow!  Less than two months away from Feral! and here it is, the first email to all the registered campers for Feral 09!  And there are A LOT of you Wink  113 by my last count ☺ Lots of new faces, lots of veteran campers, lots of returning folks who haven’t been around for a bit ☺

So, here’s the dillyo ☺ I’ll be sending emails updating you all on camp stuff!  It could be announcements about new workshops or confirmed events, the DJ lineup or information Arowhon has told us about activities this year, anything!!  There will also be reminders, such as how and when to send payments, when to show up at Yorkdale to catch the Feral bus, or even when’s best to land in Toronto if you’re flying in!  Much of this information is on the official Feral website, but we like to keep everyone up to date and also make sure you have an easy time planning for, making it to, and enjoying Feral!

Essentially…now that you’re registered…we already consider you on the way to Feral…which means it’s our job to help as best we can to make it the best furry convention you’ve ever attended!!  Also

For all you new campers, it’ll probably be a good idea to read through these emails as they come in, and also to check the website regularly.  For all you veteran campers…check the emails out as well!  There’s always important information and reminders ☺

It should also be noted that this is a two way street ☺  In fact…it’s a multilane highway Wink  We send messages out to all 113 (damn!) of you, and all 113 of you can send messages back to me, or to our activities co-ordinator Crono, or to our website guys Yennix and Inari.  Feral prides itself on being a VERY approachable con.  Remember that all members of staff ALL had their first Feral too Wink  I love getting questions, so don’t hold back ☺

In fact, here…email me at roogoyle@gmail.com if this is your first Feral.  Say hi.  Don’t even ask a question if you don’t have one.  Let me chat you up ☺  We’re gonna be hangin’ out for five days at the end of August, might as well say hi at the start of July Wink

Please read through this email carefully, and especially read the last section since it has important information on Payments, Confirmations and GOING TO FERAL 2009!!

So!  To the first email!!

FORUMS:

The best place for ALL campers, new and veteran, to keep up to date, plan cabins or get to know each other is the official Camp Feral Forum!  There we have information on workshops, events, activities and you have a chance to discuss with other campers!

If you aren’t already registered, simply go to the following address and register right on the forums!

www.campferal.org/forum

Of course, you can also head to the forums straight from www.campferal.org on the main page at the bottom of the signpost ☺

TWITTER, FACEBOOK AND LIVEJOURNAL!

I’ve already mentioned Twitter, but I’ll mention it again!  Updates, info and reminders are posted to the CampFeral twitter account ☺  Expect many this month, so it’s a good way to keep up to date if you Tweet ☺

On Facebook we have a group!  We try to update it though the more you use it the more we will too!!!!  The name is ‘I Love Camp Feral!’ and it’s found at this excessively long URL:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2261351645

Also, there is a livejournal community, feral_campers, which allows LJ furs to chat about Feral!

SCHEDULE:

The preliminary schedule of activities will be posted online by the end of next week, and I’ll post to our Twitter account (which, btw, is a GREAT place to go and keep up with site updates and get occasional info!  The twitter name is CampFeral, obviously Wink.

Expect the schedule to change a bit as new events are added or as conflicts are found…yes, sometimes I do silly things like schedule an event and workshop run by the same person in the same slot…but I’m much better now Wink

CABIN ASSIGNMENTS:

Now’s a GOOD time to think about what cabin you’d like to be in!  Here are some tips!

-       First year?  NO WORRIES!  The forums are a great place to find a group of people with similar tastes, or if not we’ll set you up in a cabin with some friendly veterans who will help you learn the ropes ☺
-       GET A CABIN TOGETHER EARLY!  It’s better than rushing at the last minute Wink  Think of it like an exam in school…it’s usually better to plan early than to cram at the last minute.
-       IF YOU DON’T CHOOSE…we choose for you Wink  Please don’t assume that being from a city means we’ll put you in a cabin with people from that city…it becomes a VERY random decision unless you’ve gotten in touch with me and I can make an educated decision ☺

HERE’S  HOW YOU DO IT!
First off, sign in to the website…you’ll see that the username you registered with and password get you a user control panel!  In the upper right corner of the website, click User Control Panel, CLICK IT!  On the nav bar at the bottom there’s a choice ‘Cabin Assignments’ ☺  There you will find choices for cabins to join, or you can start your own cabin, though BE WARNED!  If you start a cabin but only have three people, we will have to merge it with another small cabin.  DON’T WORRY THOUGH!  As I already said, we like keeping in touch with everyone: we’ll chat with you ahead of time to make sure the merger is a happy one ☺

PAYMENTS and CONFIRMATION – PLEASE READ!!:

Please remember that paying in advance is very helpful in two ways: a) we will KNOW you’re coming, and plan for your presence Wink, and b) you help Feral since we have many pre-camp expenses ☺  Pay us through paypal by signing into the campferal.org site, going to your registration page, and click the link to take you to PayPal ☺  It’ll include your registration fee in the PayPal information automatically.

In about a month, we will start contacting anyone who hasn’t paid their registration and seek confirmation of attendance.  This is important for the following reason:

Camp Feral! isn’t like a hotel con.  We need as accurate an idea of how many furs are going as possible.  Obviously, Camp Arowhon needs to know how many people are coming to get enough food, set up cabins, and plan their activities.  We also need to know for workshop supplies, conbooks and conbadges, and more boring stuff…like insurance Wink

At a hotel con, you can register and not show up…all that means is you’ve lost money.  At a hotel con, you can NOT register and show up…all that means is the con made money.

At Feral, if you register and don’t show up…we still have to pay for you. We have always allowed payment on site, but confirming that you can come, and most importantly letting us know if you can’t make it this year, is very important ☺  We try to keep everyone up to date, so please make sure you keep us up to date as well ☺

WHOOOOSH!  That’s enough chatter for tonight ☺  Once again, contact me directly if you have any questions: roogoyle@gmail.com ☺  Mention Feral in the subject line, help catch my eye…and this is an OPEN INVITATION to all new campers ☺  Contact me!  Say hi ☺

I’m off to crash and write my last exam of the term! (Damn! Da Roo’s back in school!)  Hope to hear from y’all soon ☺

I would LOVE too.. but sadly my kittens start school that week, and I will be preparing for University as well. Sad so I will not be there AGAIN!... I will make it one year. At least that is my hope.

Hope you have lots of fun Wotan! Smiley Miss you! Should come up again soon!
