Thinking I want a fursuit that is form fitting, light & 1 piece.  Would a ballet-style leotard work? Thinking of picking up a white one, adding my stripes in fur & then a zipper with a line of fur over top to cover the zipper.  Might sew on white mircofleece or fur on leotard if it looks like it needs it,but I'm aiming for somethign I won't overheat in quicky & covers the whole body in one piece (note: paws will be seprate).

Anyone try this before? Any hints? Any other suggestions then leotard?

it would work, but make sure the fabric you choose to make your suit is stretchy.  Leotards are often designed a little smaller than your actual size, so they will strech properly over your form.  I have seen some animal patterned stretchy fabric at my local fabricland, but make sure it stetches both horizontally AND vertically.

A Toronto area fur I know had a fursuit done with that basic idea in mind, making him look something like a character out of Cats, the Broadway musical. P.Pardus is the fur's name. If you can track him down, he may be able to share some tricks of the trade for that particular style.

With a leotard-type fabric, you might want to be careful with your sewing, or at least reinforce it somehow (I usually use a thin coat of hot glue just to make sure the threads stay tight) because being a stretchy fabric, it may not hold together as well as other fabric might.  With stretching, it could throw your seams out of alignment.

Just something to be careful of.  May want to test out a strip of fur sewn to a strip of leotard and then just tug/stretch on it to see how it will deal with normal wear-and-tear.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the info!

Lady S. I would use a pre-made leotard.  Trying to spare me the trouble of sewing a body suit.

Aye, though you'd still be sewing fur to it, no?

Form fitting would be cool, and i think if the wearer was female their body shape would be more prominent  Tongue
We usually just have cute fursuits, not sexeh ones x3

Bought one of those white long underwear thingys with legs/arms. Hehe, it already has buttons down the front & back(for tail), so all I have to do is add fur, yay! Abit worried about it being too stretchy, but the fur should stiffen it up.  I'll post pic when I get it done...which might be awhile as college is here again

Is this full size suit like a clothingless character? because partial suits are allways a good idea with clothing wearing characters, since the layers of both a shirt and a fursuit and undergarments would make you quite hot and all.
it's a problem both Stormtrooper and Master Beef cosplayers face.

I have a partial for clothing, but this fursuit is meant for no clothing at all.  Just a wild wolfykat

Well assuming your a girl, a fursuit like that would look hot because of a female wearers figure would be prominent.
Which is as they say Curves are Cool.

Actually, I'm a girl who is trying to portray as a male...maybe I should think of something to hide the hips.

Generally with all that fur, it's not too much of a problem anyways.  But if you're quite concerned, you could always put some foam padding on the sides to make them more level with the hips.  It'll make you look a bit 'wider', possibly, but also more masculine.

Even some slight shoulder padding could help immensely if you're looking to truly pass off as male.

Well depends if you have big Hips (and if you do nothing to be ashamed of their hip XD) I can only suggest modifications to the form and figure of the suit, male bodies are generally defined by broader shoulders and chest, some padding or cushions to the sides can achieve this effect.

Finally done! Well, gotta add some leg stripes & maybe soem more fur patches, but I had my mom take some quick pics of my new suit. Its so cool, no overheating in it & its so cute. My dogs pounced me, must have amused them seeing me as a canine.

I love the suit but.......you can really notice your boobs! *lol* if you were looking to portray a male, you might want to look into getting a tight sports bra, or 'binding' your chest (wrapping it with a tensor bandage or surgical tape) and you might want to add a little bulge (sp?) in the crotch area, just for added effect  Tongue But like I said, it turn out awesome! Hope to see more!

Mom was taking the photos & would freak if she saw I wear it binded & adding crotch effects, but when I wear it at the furmet I shall be binded down &  packing. Hehe made a sheath as a gag, but would be too shy to wear it in public...plus its too naughty.  Also plan to pad the shoulders to make them look larger & maybe pad up the sides to hide hips, but think I shall wait till after 1st furmet
