so today i found 3 meters of wolf faux fur and some tan/off white fur for the suit im making....which got me 'a' thinkin' i have this sitting unused in my closet.... would it be a viable idea to remove the safety stripes and pockets then take it apart at the seams and sew the fur right onto it? this would solve 2 problems, first it gives me something which i know is form fitted to my body shape and secondly it provides a lining of sorts for the fur. your thoughts please fuzzy people?

Hmm..
I can't see it being a problem, as long as it's form-fitting enough for your liking, or can be tailored to be as such.
It doesn't even have a bothersomely large collar. I'd say go for it; there isn't any problem I can forsee, and it'll certainly make things much easier for a first go at it.
Even has a fantastic built-in zipper in just the right place.
Would love to see what you can do with it.
Cheers, -Lady Serpent

that would be really unreasonably hot! I would highly suggest getting the basic Jumpsuit style pattern from Simplicity and using it. All the halloween patterns are on sale now and the ladies there are really great at getting you all the notions you need to complete it. Also for a full fursuit you'll need a minimum of 5 meters to completel the head, paws and tail too, just keep that in mind. I always get 6 cuz then I can make replacement parts later on or redo the head if I want.

thanks for the input Kitty i was thinking heat might be an issue, but i would still either have to put a lining on the back of the fur or wear something inside the suit, so im going to have to compare the thicknesses of the fabrics to see which works best. i know the coveralls i have are made of the Nomex fire retardant material, its lighter than my normal coveralls, but i cant for the life of me remember how good it was on a hot day lol i just re-read what i wrote first about the amount of fabric, should have read, 3 meters of coloured fur and 3 meters of the off-white fur :-p

Great! Ya know what you could do is use a sharpie or any black marker and mark on the cover-alls where you would want the pattern of fur, then cut them up and use that as your pattern.

I would personally take the coveralls apart and use it as a pattern template. You can alter it to fit your shape before taking it apart, then use the altered coveralls as a patern when cutting out your fur.

not a bad idea....mark the pattern right onto the coveralls and then just cut it out, place on the back of the fur, add an inch (i think, for the seams?) label and repeat... realign the numbers and sew back together sounds simple...sorta

judging by the thickness of the fur, would you say 1" on all sewn edges?

I usually do 1 1/2 to 2 inches simply because if I mess up I can go back and carefully take out the stitching and give myself more width in an area I might need it (that always happens to me around the bust or chest area) Remember its always way easier to take a suit out a little more then have to cut and add more fur in later. So if you have the extra, give your self some. When your all done and it fits nicely, turn it inside out and with some sissors carefully cut the excess bits from around the seams.
